Boxster roof

Hi,

My boxster roof just won't close. It is completely open at the moment. Any ideas what might be worng? Does anyone have wiring diagram for roof motors?

Regards

Well are there any electric motor noises?

My first thought being a fuse...

The motor is at the back of the are a the roof folds in to - so that makes it a little inaccessible at the moment if the roof is open [&:] I'm sure there is an emergency procedure in the manual for this?

There is an emergency procedure for raising the roof manually - its detailed in the manual and involeves using a lever in the toll kit to 'jack' up the roof.

When the roof is partly closed check the tensioning wires haven't popped off (they have a ball socket on them which can come loose). and if yo can get to it check the microswitch which detects the clamshell closure.

OK - I bet I know what it is - at the centre top of the windscreen, there is the point the roof latches in to - this has a microswitch in it (this is to tell the car the roof is latched - so that you can't try and open it with the roof locked, and burn out the motor.

If you take a look you can see the button for the microswitch - try pressing this a few times to unstick it.

If the microswitch has completely failed (or a wire fallen off!) you can get in and replace it - but try this first.

You can download the user manual from Renntech.org but only if you donate to the forum - they also have all the tech service bulletins for download there too.

There's nothing like having it with you when you are away from home and the roof fails though[] - it's about £15 from Porsche[:)]

me too [:(] i was 3 seconds too late with my user manual suggestion lol !!

xsx - if the above doesn't work and you need to get the roof up - I can post the relevant bits from the manual - but let's see if this works 1st... ?

hi there!

thanks for replies. managed to closed it manually, but now windows are half-open. =) Any ideas?

That definitely does sound like the micro switch at the top of the windscreen. The microswitch drops the windows to allow clearance for the roof to open. It works in reverse when closing. Make sure that you have done the handle, I have felt an idiot when this happened to me and it was just that I'd not pulled the handle:)

You might need to reset the window limits - power them via the switch to the down position and then to the up position with the roof closed. Then turn off ignition. They should now be reset and lower again slightly when you open the door.

Have a look where the latch is at the top centre of the screen - there is a microswitch in there that is a common cause of such things. A poke with a finger sometimes sorts it - or you can get in and take a look if it still fails to operate.
