Boxster Running Costs

Tackhead

New member
Hi,

Im new here and just wanted to ask a question. Im thinking of buying an entry level Boxster, probably a 2.5, maybe able to stretch to a 2.7. I m spending around £6000, but I'm worried about running costs. I keep reading that maintenance costs are high so i thought you'd guys would know better than anyone if this is true.

Any advice you could give would be appreciated.

Thanks
John

Hi Trackhead - I was asking the same question last year and the advice from George Robinson who is probably the most eloquent advocate for Porsche in the History of the world was wait until you can afford a 3.2 - this was the best advice I have ever had. If you buy anything less than the best Boxster you can, you will always regret it. Don't skimp on the Maintenance - speak to your local Porsche Dealer with regard to maintenance. If you can't afford to do it properly - don't bother! It would be like going out with Posh Spice and taking her for a Fish and Chip supper - you will look a fool and you will only loose her as you would deserve to do. The money you will save spending only 6k will be spent in the first year of ownership. Wait! Buy a good condition car with Full Porsche Service history and less than 50k on the clock and you will not have to spend too much on Maintenance. Good luck

Hi John, As you can see, I have had a 2.5 & a 3.2. I enjoyed the 2.5 just as much. A 2.7 is a better bet as it will have the glass rear window. Buy on condition, not mileage. A full service history is vital. Get it checked by an expert. Running costs are low (especially if an Independant services it) until something goes wrong! Buy an MX5 if you are worried about costs. Great fun too!

Hi Trackhead - totally agree with Derek and I bow to his wide experience but I would say that if you try to save money on maintenance it will come back to haunt you. The person that owned my car previously, even to the last day of ownership, invested in full Porsche service and maintenance and it really does show in performance and standard. Porsche here in Spain have said that they have not seen a Boxster in such good condition. Derek is right, you are better off with a Japanese car if cost is a factor.
