Boxster S 986 rear plastic window hole

Hi, I have noticed a hole at the top of my plastic rear window on my Porsche Boxster S. I have seen adverts of companies that will replace the plastic window with glass. Has anyone done this and is it effective?

AFAIK they do not replace the plastic window with a glass one as a glass one of the same size as the plastic one is too heavy. They replace the whole roof which has a smaller glass window.
Do a search on Google 'Boxster Window' and click on Images to see the different sizes of the window.

You may find someone who will replace the plastic one for another plastic one but the roof has to be removed to stitch the new one in. Time to treat yourself to a new roof (that is what I'm doing after the winter weather has ended (mine lives outside).

Cheers,

You can't replace with the same size glass as it um, well, doesn't fold...

has lots of info for replacements/windows etc

Thanks for the links. I am left with a decision now. There are companies, like K Baggs, who will replace the plastic window for £240 +vat and they also do new roof with glass window for £650 +Vat and BAS International in South Wales who will replace the roof with glass window for £695 inc VAT.
and there I was to wanting to restore the wheels!

I have the BAS myself, for the little extra I'd personally go for that, unless you are wanting it to be completely "as original".
If you are not planning on entering a concours then the added convenience of not having to get out and make sure the window is folding correctly + having to clean the plastic carefully to prevent it getting scratched whilst folded etc... it's well worth it.

We had the plastic panel replaced with glass which involved a whole new roof from Autofarm (http://www.autofarm.co.uk/) 4 1/2 years ago. Nice new roof and heated rear window (wiring for the roof is already in situ). Wasn't a cheap quick fix (about £900) but given the intention to keep the car for a long period seemed worth the money. Have had no problems with either the roof or the window since and would certainly recommend. Another plus side is not having to bash the crease in the damn plastic window in, everytime you lower the roof.
