Boxster S Gearbox

I have just purchaased a Boxster S and when cold the gearbox is stiff and engaging 4th is extremely difficult. When it is warm it is fine. Is this normal?

Michael,

It could be that the gear linkage needs lubricated (it was the same for me as my problem was going across the gate to 3rd from 2nd). This happens simply due to exposure to the elements.

Repair involves lots of lub spraying on the linkage and gear stick waggling (to give it its technical term!).

I've heard that this tend to be worse on tiptronic boxes.

cheers,

Iain

Thank you. May sound a stupid question, but how do you get to the linkage. Do you just remova the gaiter around the gearstick??

I think someone is misleading you there. Difficulty in selecting gears with a tip box is not a known problem because as you have already said it's the gear linkages on manual boxes that cause the problem. Tiptronic gears are selected electronically.

The gear selector (lever, not the buttons) on some early 986 Boxsters had a 'sticking' problem, and I believe it was a FOC fix/recall at the OPC. But since then you're right, I dont believe I've ever heard of the tip gear changes being difficult.
