Boxster S immobilised /Key reset !! NOW SOLVED!!

Showtime

New member
Gentlemen, help if you can please.. Boxster S 2002 (986) which after a small(ish) shunt, has stood for a while without being started.
Now it wont start, Battery was flat...dead. took out the battery and re-charged, alarm went off on re-connecting and remote would not 'silence' it. After about 30 secs it stopped on its own.

Key remote will lock and unlock, Key in ignition lights up dash and engine turns over..but wont fire.
Heard from a neighbour, that flat battery means key/ignition module has lost its code and needs dealership re-setting...(thats going to cost !!).. is this right, or is there a simple fix.

Checked Relay in boot, swapped over with another, checked fuses, all seem OK..

any ideas my learned friends ...

Update on above.,,,Fuel Pump Relay faulty, found a thread on http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/Boxster_Tech/22-FUEL-Fuel_Pump/22-FUEL-Fuel_Pump.htm very very useful website

follow the links/pictures to see how to make a small jumper connection to bypass relay.. did this and it fired instantly..

Thanks to Richard for his valuable input on this, he was bang on and it was a fuel issue. [:D]

Thanks Richard, I did wonder if engine would crank if immobilised, so that ticks that one off. Will check fuel pump (if I can find it) as it's my first boxster. Does the boxster have a fuel pump cut off switch/where. What does the 'Start Lock' relay control ? as I think thats the one the delivery guys changed in the boot.. will it help if I unplug ecu and re-connect,

The fuel pump is in the tank. You can usually hear it whirring when you switch on the ignition, until it builds up pressure. I'm not aware of a fuel cut-off switch, but I'm a bit stuffed at the moment as my laptop died over the weekend and all my manuals were on it. (New one arriving tomorrow). If you disconnect the battery it will reset the ECU. Remember to turn the key to position 1 before disconnecting, to stop the alarm siren from sounding. If it cranks but won't start then it either isn't getting fuel, or there is no spark. I think it is more likely be fuel, but what you say about 'the delivery driver changing relays' sounds a bit suspect to me too.

Cheers Richard, appreciate the input.. sounds like either the alarm is not 'de-activating', hence no spark, I'll re synchronise the key and see what happens, then will look at the fuel pump relay too and see if that sorts it..

I don't think it is the alarm-immobiliser. When active, the immobiliser inhibits cranking, spark, and fuel pump. If it cranks, I don't think the other two will be inhibited.
