Have looked at a boxster S at OPC tonight worst conditions grey overcast day and covered in rain. I like the car but the front boot lid appears to have been resprayed on the cheap as the colour and metallic fleck pattern doesn't match the wings, the salesman pointed out the paper vehicle spec label on the under side and said this is the proof that the panel hasn't been damaged but on closer inspection it is fairly wrinckled as if it could have been steamed off and put back on later. If they sort out the panel with a repray that matches I'll go ahead with purchase but just wondered if anyone knows this Boxster S.

nearly forgot this one does anyone know if Boxster S on an 04 came with 18" wheels as standard this one has 17" fitted.

Hmmm.... What model year is an 04 plate? I can't keep track anymore...
Irrespective of the registration plate "age" - If it is a 986 Boxster then 17" were standard, 18" an option. If it is a 987 Boxster, then 18" were standard (19" option).

I doubt an OPC would put the wrong wheels on. The bonnet (and front PU ("bumper") are very likely to have been resprayed as they stone-chip easily.

"04" would be a 986 so 17" would be standard. The OPC would probably respray the front of EVERY used car beyond a certain age/mileage that it sells on so I wouldn't worry about that. Just ensure that they respray it again flawlessly. Additionally, a replaced bonnet lid is not the end of the world so long as it's not the sign of a more major off. As long as all the stickers line up with the numbers in the log book, you will be ok. If you have the slightest doubt then walk away as there are loads for sale at the moment.

There should be a matching sticker in the service book.

My front trunk lid was replaced. I made sure the body shop took the option sticker off the old lid and put it on the new lid. I don't know how they did it, but you would never know it was switched.

Thanks to all, for feedback. Still a bit confused as 911 & Porsche World, Boxster suppliment this month says post 2003 Boxster S came with 18" wheels as this is 2004 I shall be taking article along to OPC when I look at KT04 *** after used car prep. Perhaps I should stretch the pennies and find a 987 S in guards red as my 944 in that colour always looks good.

Paul,
I have a MY03 Boxster S and just checked the purchased invoice and 18" wheels were a £784.90 added option.

The article may be assuming that since the MY04 special "50 Years of the 550 Spyder" edition had 18" as standard; all facelift 986S had them as standard too. Only 1953 unit of those special editions were made...

The Magazine has it wrong I'm afraid. (As Kish says) the 18" wheel were an option.
18" wheels only became standard on the Boxster S when it morphed into the 987 (the one with the different shaped headlights) in late 2004 as a 2005 Model Year.
