Boxster S slipping and sliding !!

i have a 2002 boxster s. it hasd no traction control.

in wet conditions , if i floor it to about 4000 revs accelerating upto 35mph the back end slides about a fair bit. in 1st and second

also it wheels spins a lot if i am in 1st or second round a 90degree turn.

I dfont spank it - rarely go above 3500 revs.

does this sound normal??

chhers bro - i have only had it a month, so sometimes push it without realising - generally dont drive fast but only had a 2.0 litre beamer before so need to control myself

Only had my boxster a couple of months and I too have noticed this ,I did have an mr2 roadster that slid about a bit but I always felt in control , Im still getting used to my boxster as it seems to take me by surprise !

Great fun though ;)

Should have got one with PSM ...
Trick is to get the speed and gear right going into the corner, keep the throttle constant in the corner and only start accelerating as you come off the steering lock and straighten up again.
Mine used to get wayward with PSM switched on in the wet on roundabouts etc as it only cuts in when you are in real trouble

What are your rear tyres like for wear and pressure?
I deliberately chose mine without PSM and very rarely have any issue with wheel spin, but probably have built up measured throttle control as a subconscious mode.

What state are your rear tyres in Verdi?

Even if there is plenty of tread, if they are a bit elderly, that could be your problem.

Be careful out there!!

tyres are about 5 weekls old pierelli P0....i think i need to learn some respect for the power in comparison to other cars i've had!!

Since my last post i have been experimenting with braking / accel points on turns and i think i was accelerating too soon with too much power...

thanks for all the advice

I'm surprised Traction in these cars is great & better than most, unless you are flooring it in first gear in the wet (or above 4k in 2nd) traction really shouldn't be an issue. Either it's new tyres that need bedding in, wrong tyre pressures or a very heavy right foot. The only time you need to be CAREFUL in a Boxster is when flooring it mid-bend in the wet, mid-engined cars grip..grip & then SPIN...you have been warned!!!!
