Boxster side windows

Hi

I've had my '03 Boxster S for a couple of years now and still havn't worked out;

1. Why side windows go down a couple of inches when you put the hood down
2. Whether they are meant to be left down during driving wuth the top down

I am sure the answer will be very simple, but being a bear of little brain.......

Probably a health and safety thing, to avoid anything or anyone being caught in between the hood and window glass, my windows drop all the way when I raise or lower the roof but its an earlier car.
Yes it is OK to put the windows back up with the roof down they won't fall out![:)]

The windows coming down may also be reasons related to sealing/seatng of them. I guess this would be more related to the hood going up not down but that would mean more computer software.

Anyway, if the hood went up while the windows were still up then there could be a snag factor as evertything came together. Maybe it's easier to drop them, close the hood and then the normal window poperation would bring them back to the correct posish. with the correct seal.

Driving with the hood and windows down can get a little too brisk as the speed increases.

Have a look at how the windows seal when the hood is up and you will see they fit into a slotted channel. This stops any water ingress but when you open the door they have to drop to avoid being pulled inwards inside the channel. Same idea applies when putting the roof up or down. they drop to avoid fouling the front edges of the roof as it goes back (or forwards.) Saves wear on the inside channel seals.
