Does anyone out there know where I can get loudspeakers that come complete with grilles that fit the cubby holes in the rear storage box behind the seats in my 2002 3.2s Boxster. There seem to be some available on E-bay but I would prefer to buy new stuff if poss.Is an amplfier required ?
Plus can anyone offer advice for replacement seats that might be more comfortable with my arthritic hip/sacrum joint?

if these are the speakers on eBay you're looking at - they're brand new. The kit is by a guy in the US called Harvey Peck, and have a very good reputation. Which is why I bought them. [:)] The speakers are third party (but better quality than the Porsche items anyway) but the grilles are genuine Porsche. I do have an amp (PSP upgrade), but the speakers can go straight into the back of the CD player. You can find the fitting instructions here to give an idea of whats needed.

Interesting. Two questions come to mind,

1) Is a similar kit available in the UK?
2) Are there speakers that upgrade on the standard items (I have the factory fitted audio pack)?

Andrew,

I don't think there is such a kit in the UK which is why Harveys are so popular. Dunno about question 2 'cos I haven't done it myself - I've only added the 'missing' rear speakers.

Thanks for the help but I was a bit impatient! Took the plunge and put the crossovers behind the amp, routed the wiring through the bulkhead and up into the dash. Turned out this was easier than I thought - you need long arms and thin hands though! My biggest decision was to cut the wiring into the amp to take a feed for the dash speakers - fortunately I saw another post for the CD version of the workshop manual which gave me the exact info I needed. Diamond Hexes sound excellent compared to the standard dash arrangement, (for a car that is). The whole thing took longer than I expected but I was being particularly careful. For reference the set I used was the S400s which will just fit into the dash (albeit with a piece of MDF as a base cut from the original dash speaker shape).

Stage II will be to replace the door speakers with Diamond bass/midrange 5 1/4 speakers.

Finally got round to fitting the kit last weekend.

Firstly, I got a bill for £48.15 from Parcel Force for VAT, Import Duty and their fu*#ing admin charge!!

But to be honest, that is the only gripe I have.

The instructions are very easy to follow and so long as you have the correct tools, i.e. 8mm torx wrench, cross head screwdriver and Stanley knife, no worries.

One thing though, you MUST follow the following procedure to disconnect the battery, otherwise you will set off the alarm and pretty much deafen yourself, as I did, fortunately, I have a good contact at OPC Nottingham who told me what to do.

Turn the ignition on, then disconnect the NEGATIVE terminal of the battery, then the alarm will not go off. DO NOT try to do this without having the ignition on, do this at your own peril of hearing loss!!! Also, make sure it is the negative terminal cos when you reconnect (making sure the key is in the ignition and turned to the ON position) there is no likelyhood of a spark (which there is if you do it with the positive terminal).

The speakers are very good for their size, but you may want to cut some of the bass out when you are listening at speed and trying to get the best out of them as with all speakers, the head unit can drive them harder than they really want.

Very neat and tidy installation and I strongly recommend them.

If you want any pics of the finished product, let me know.

Regards

Phil
