Boxster Starting relay

Hi
2 years ago I had a problem with my 987 Boxster not starting.
when I called the RAC that suggested a local garage which ripped me off for £800 for changing a starter relay.
where is the starter relay on a Boxster? Is this a part I could potentially change myself?
Thanks

No idea where the relay is, but..
check the switch on the clutch pedal also!
If that is faulty when you press the clutch pedal down and turn the key and nothing as in nothing happens then that switch could be the reason.
Awkward to replace, and around £40 in cost plus fitting.
your local Porsche independent can sort it easy.

this happened to my 987.2 last year in France, hence this suggestion.

I don’t think it’s the clutch sensor.
if I try to start without depressing the clutch I get the message ‘press clutch’, if I don’t, I don’t get the messagr

Would be my first port of call to check the clutch pedal switch its a fairly common fault.
Hope you get your problem sorted.

I had this on the 987 SPYDER new switch £35 inc fitting The garage who fitted got there skinniest tec to do it ,have to have gymnastic ability .:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Ian,

As suggested, replacement of the clutch pedal switch is the quickest and cheapest route to check-out first, but if you're getting the "Press Clutch" warning it's more than likely that the problem lies elsewhere. On an older car like yours it could just be a bad earth on the starter motor or elsewhere in the circuit, so it's worth checking that out before committing more money to solve the problem.

You appear to have ruled out the clutch switch which leaves some less common faults. Without having someone perform a diagnostic I think you could be wasting time and effort.

Hi
it was £800 because I was basically paying for the training for someone who hadn’t a clue. Nearly all investigation and labour. I’ll take to an Indy specialist next week.

Good move imho.
Funny about the 'skinniest technician' comment above. It really is a torture to change if you are anything over 10 stone and 5' 10"
Dropping the steering wheel to it's lowest height helps to actually see the blighter.
I had all the fun in a French Hotel car park...
Good luck, let us know the outcome.

Hi
i got the RAC out on Monday- he managed to start it by jumping across the relay so I could get to an Indy (Northway)
Ended up being a break in the wire from the CPU to the starter relay. New wire installed, now all fine.
