Boxster wheels fit 944?

Hi everyone
I searched the forum to see if Boxster wheels will fit an '89 944 turbo and cannot find any posts. There's a set of Boxster 16" wheels for sale that I fancy and wondered if anyone else has done the same or knows about compatibility. I have asked the seller for offsets and widths.
Cheers

They fit, but don't look very nice - Possibly wrong widths for a turbo as well.

What do you have on there at the moment? - Shouldn't you have the clubsport rims on yours?

Hi
Thanks for the reply. I have design 90 (is that the right name?) wheels the same as in your little pciture and I think that the Boxster rims will not be wide enough too. Any other suggestions? The 90s are ok but I would like something with less centre metal.

Mine are clubsports - similar to D90's but forged. Have a look at this page

http://www.wheelenhancement.com/index.php?t=Wheels

The clubsports are also more valuable than D90's

The common upgrade is to fit some 17" cup 1's http://www.wheelenhancement.com/index.php?t=WheelDetail&id=31 or 2's http://www.wheelenhancement.com/index.php?t=WheelDetail&id=26, and both look great, but these are expensive in the right sizes. You don't want to have too much of a difference between F & R wheel/tyre widths as this promotes understeer.

If you're interested, I've got some new Cup 3 replicas for sale (9" all round so may be better for track use) http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/560216.htm. I might be interested in a swap if you have CS rims in good condition.

Theyll fit, but they arent suitable. 16" wheels are almost always 6" & 7" wide and even a Lux needs a minimum of a 7" rim at the front. This is why most D90s fitted arent particularly safe/legal either, as they came off C2/C4s (sold cheap when owners fitted Cups) which run 6"F and 8"R: the S2 fronts were 7"...

My Turbo ran 8" & 9" rims, so Id suggest that 16" Boxster wheels would be dangerous. They do suit a 924S though...

He's talking about the many sets of D90 that came off the 964 with only a 6" wide front.

S2 should have 7" front and 8" rear

Turbo should be 7" or 7.5" front and 9" rear

Hi Fen
Good to hear from you again. No progress as yet and I still have the conversion hardware such as bellhousing, engine mounts, sump pan and radiator sitting in my loft. I would dearly like to start but 12 months ago I started my own web design and IT management business and so funds are not so readily available as they were when I was employed by various companies.
Regards
John

I understand. You're further on that I am as you have some of the kit and still the intention of doing it. It isn't impossoble that I'll get round to it, but it's very, very unlikely.

Doh, just checked mine.
I have 6J front D90's, no wonder its so understeery.
Anybody got a pair of 7J or 8J D90's spare?

I have 17" boxster wheels on my 88 turbo they fit but the front seem to sit in out far enough (very slightly). I believe a 10mm spacer should sort it out though ??

When I bought my car, the PO had some Boxter wheels fitted. They did have spacers on them, but I couldn't tell you how wide the spacers or wheels were. Too long ago. I don't like many recent Porsche wheels but I think they look ok on this occasion.

Looking: most 7"x17" front Boxster wheels have an offset of 55mm with the rears being 50mm. These are both within 2mm-3mm of what they 'should' be, with the fronts being slightly pround and the rears being slightly inset. 7"x16" Boxster rears have an offset of 40mm, whichll make them sit about half an inch proud of the original 15" wheels on a MY87 onwards 944.

You will need to use 6mm spacers on the front wheels or they wont seat properly on the hubs.
Other than that as long as the width's are correct they will go on fine.

I think they look great....but then again having fitted them to mine I would !!
