JJ Littman and Dave Clark drove together to win in the former's Boxster 3.2S in the Classic Sports Car Club's (CSCC) "Modern Classics" race yesterday (14 April) at Snetterton, on the 200 circuit. It was only Littman's second race for over 10 years (the first being last weekend) and his first ever win!
The 40 min race for one or two drivers featured a 20 car entry and there were good battles for the lead between the Littman/ Clark Boxster, the BMW E46 of James Card and his father, the BMW E36 of Smith and Moulton-Smith and the Porsche 911 of Dave Whelan. The winning Boxster beat Smith and Moulton-Smith by just 5.5 seconds at the end. Further down the field there were several other good close battles in the lower capacity classes.
Modern Classics is a new series for 2013 and replaces the "Deutsche Marque" series that the CSCC previously ran for German cars only in 2011 and 2012. The series now features all marques of sports car, GT and Saloon up to year 2000 (along with previous Deutsche Marque cars, which have grandfather rights).
The winning Boxster (prepared to the BRSCC's Boxster series regs) wasn't even in the top class of the series, that being for cars of greater capacity than 3.2 litres. The Boxster beat cars such as a Porsche 964, 993 RSR, 968, a Ferrari 355, SEAT Leon Cupra Turbo as well as the aforementioned BMWs
The lower capacity classes included Lotus Elise, Mazda MX5.
