well as you can see im fairly new , and found people and the forum to be helpful , however i cant help detecting that there is a lot of snobbery conected with the cars within the range
i for one have always hankered for a porsche , however with family and mortgage , and crap salary 22k a year
have always stuggled to justify or indeed save for a car .

well after a year of saving and a 8k loan i finally got an 98 boxster 2.5, really pleased about it in almost all aspects , ie it will hold some of its value , relitive cheap insurance , relability etc .
so i start browsing the forums , all of a sudden its poverty this , not real porsche that , 2.5 is no use , the s is the only boxster to get , now what you all waiting for the new boxster 987 is the only one worth having.
I realise that everyones needs and balances are different, and respect people are just enthusastic about there current car and like to share the technical notes and such like ,
however please try and be respectful for others whos car to them, is every much bit as special and a joy to have .
I am now even at the stage when i see a 993 or a 996 , saying i wish i had one of them because it has this or can do that.
anyway thats my tupence ,
everyone enjoy your cars , we all are a lucky bunch to have any porsche in the first place

Greg

I have a 2.5 Boxster, trying to sell if anyone is interested, I think they are great cars and very enjoyable. I was always an air cooled man, having a 2.4S, 944, 993, 964 over the years, Porsche don't make a bad car. You will always find someone with more money who can go out and buy something bigger or better. Who cares, if a few individuals get their kicks from looking down on others, they probabely have an erection problem.

good points very well made.
the best porsche is always the one you own. like most things in life if you have saved for a while to get something then you appreciate it alot more.
Your find if you come to events and meetings and get to meet a few of us on here that this "rivalry" on here is infact quite tongue in cheek and that most of us will happily drawl (drool) over all Porsches whatever the age/value.

get out there, drive, enjoy and stop worrying about what others think or say....stuff them!!

lol i do , boss has commented , We pay you to much etc , great when you time it to leave at the same time has him , watch him climb into is new signum , i just get in the boxster, take the hood down, the red leather gleams , the engine burbbles away, i swear i can see him mouth b-stard from his lips, cd on , bye bye manager , makes me laugh every time

Greg,

if you have a few pennies left, then join the PCGB Club. Will be a good investment.

I got my first Boxster back in '97 and talk about look down on you! But since I had owned a '73 2.7 RS for many years I could care less what any idiot thought.

Q. What is the best Porsche in the world?
A: The one in your driveway.

But, it is always nice to be able to hanker after your next one.

I think it's important not to worry about what others think and enjoy the moment in the majority of cases those that mock are those that don't have. When I had my first boxster I knew a guy who asked me when I was getting a "real" Porsche. Turns out he hankers after one so badly and is having to wait until his kids finish school I am sure if he had one then there would have been no comment. There is always going to be rivalry within enthusiast groups and that is part of the banter that goes on you just have to learn not to take it personally as Helen says most of it is tounge in cheek.

And remember if you go out with the roof down you'll soon forget what people think as you will be enjoying it too much [:)]

thanks i have emailed them and will send the credit card details asap . i can assure you it wont be my last porsche lol

Having just been out today for a blast in my Boxster, I can only say that I agree with Helen; to hell with the whingers and the other jealous car owners. Enjoy the car; a Porsche experience is for life and living, not just for the moment.
Incidentally, my first Porsche is this one, purchased when I reached 50 [+] as a special gift to myself, and I am enjoying it imensely. From an average of 6,000 miles each year to 13,000 in the last 15 months!
Once again, enjoy the Porsche experience and have fun.

The way I look at it is that it doesn't matter if it's a 2.5. It's just as much fun on the road, within (or not too far above) the legal limits. IMO the S is a wee bit overpriced for the extra driving experience. I would've gone for the 2.5 myself when I bought mine last year, but I didn't want the plastic rear screen and I preferred the facelifted look. If I'd gone for an S, which I could've just stretched my budget to, I probably would've had a much easier time finding a car, but in the end I decided the 2.7 has more than enough power for (almost ) legal fun, and costs a lot less to buy and insure.
As they say where I come from, "fcuk the begrudgers". I did notice a couple of people shout 'w@nker' at me during the first couple of days of ownership, but now all I notice are people shouting "nice motor", which is almost as embarassing. It happens reasonably often and it never fails to amaze me that most folks out there just think "good on yer", which makes the begrudgers seem even more petty. Still, I reckon there are a lot of boxster owners out there who's car is a pure fashion accessory to go hand in hand with their 'look at me' lifestyle; we all know the type (former BMW owners probably [;)]). Hypocritically enough, I find myself muttering w@nker under my breath too when I see them.

former BMW owners probably

Steady!

Have you had the folks park next to you in their normal sort of car, (trying not to affend anyone), fiestas, clios, etc and say "I'll swap you that for mine if you like"?

It's a hoot when you reply "Alright then" and hold out the keys. [:D]

And so is mine but first Porsche,a lovely 924Lux which preceeded the 924S sometime in 1991 came before the BMW.Now we can't bear to part with the "S" even though it's worth peanuts.

thanks all , well i did the retro fit xenon lights , after 1 hour all working fine , on off , on , off noticed the indicator was intermittant , lens back off then on , indicator now working, headlight not , lens back off , headlight working , indicator and fog , not working , 1 hour later getting really p-ssed with it , then notice the plastic stantion that hold the socket is cracked ( probably the ballast pressing against it ) , tried to glue it to keep it rigid, ( no luck) , threw the toys out the pram and snapped the plastic stantion off , placed plug into lens , now no problem all works well , please please dont tell me that plastic is essential and it going to cost £300 + to fix . low beam is a tremendous difference now

[:D]Nearly two years ago I was looking for a second car, VW GOLF or something like!. Came across a 924 two owners for £800 and loved it, Every time I drove it I kept telling myself "I'm DRIVING A bl**dy PORSCHE. Cleaned it up, bit of mechanical work and got it though its MOT, sold it for £1500 which I used as a down payment for my Boxster 3.2s. Every one has a favorite PORSCHE! Its the one your driving!

Well said Greg.

I still miss my first Porsche, a 944.[:(]

If I had the garage space and the cash, I wouldn't have parted with it.

Just to echo what most other people have said - the best Porsche is the one parked on your drive / in your garage etc. Ive had my first Porsche about 20 months and still it puts a smile on my face and the bug bit and I cannot see another brand at the moment moving it - yeah sometimes I see a 993 / 928 / 996 and think ' Jesus I want one of those ' but that to me is all part of life - there will always be somebody with a ' better ' car and having dreams realised or not when you drive a Porsche is IMO no issue. If you get any snobbery or ignorance as most of us have experienced at some stage then just have a quiet chuckle to yourself .

Whilst I sometimes long for another Porsche model the thought of having to part with my 944 is something quite honestly I would struggle to do but yet other people will always say/think it's only a 944 etc etc.

[:D]Chris there's now't wrong with your 944 ! I drove it once! Its what made me buy my first 924!,

Hiya Bryan [:D][:D] , an experience Im not likely to forget in a hurry - you are very honoured to have driven my pride and joy ( some may say better than me !! ) .

Thought I saw your Boxster the other day - not to many Speed Yellow Boxsters in Preston .

Cheers
Chris
