Boxsters PCM MOBILE PHONE SIM CARD

SKITTLES

New member
Could any of you teche chaps please tell me how to install a SIM card? I am a new owner of a 2003 Boxster S with built in PCM / Sat mav / Mobile unit. The previous owner had an O2 Sim card that was working ok but when I insert my Sim O2 card the unit just says "Installing" but never completes. I have reset the unit (Key 148) but this makes no differance. Is there another menu to reset the phone?

Thanks Roy Menber 52252

Are you fitting the sim card the correct way round, The sim contact points should be furthest into the slot with the contact points facing the left.
Any standard sim will do but obviously leave the sim attached to the credit card size card (the whole thing goes in.
Of course it may be you are trying a sim for which the car does not have the frequency range, i went to Tesco, bought a sim for a fiver, put it in and it all works

Hi Chaps

Had thare been a previous SIM card installed in your car or are you the first to use the Phone?
Thanks

ROY

pre owned but obviously when i bought the car the sim was kept by the previous owner, dont know what frequency the unit uses but as you know there is 900 and 1800 plus others - i guess this as they sell quad band mobiles, the tesco card is the celnet frequency but when i first put the card in it did not work, i phoned the car and it rang - answered it - and this seemed to get everything going again - it now works perfectly

My PCM 2 just takes the sim but the drawer on that seems to shut in 2 positions.

You can push it in and it stays in but it just says checking network, then you can press it again and it pops forward about 2mm and the phone works. Great quality [:-]

Anybody know what networks will provide duplicate sims for car and mobile?
