Boxter exhaust smokes on cold startup

Hi ive recently purchased a 2 year old Boxter 2.9 and am contemplating taking the vehicle to Porsche to add the further 2 year warrenty but you have to have owned the vehicle for 90 days before they will do the 111 point check, however i am a bit concerned, its not used every day and i have notice that when starting up from cold it can be very smokey, when its warm it doesnt seem to be an issue.
Is this normal?? and is it a good idea to spend £1700 on warrenty?

its only done 20500, it was serviced by porsche colchester at 19500 one month ago, so i assumed all was well, you would expect them to have picked up any issues at the time?

If it is a 'puff' of smoke on start up (typically when cold) this is a known feature of the flat six engine and will disappear in 5-10 seconds or so. If however it lasts longer or you get puffs during cornering it can point to a common fault with the air oil separator, a simple fix and shouldn't cost hundreds of pounds.

On start up are you putting your foot on the accelerator? Stand outside the car and try just starting on the Key - no right foot!

Hi John, i natural feather the throttle on startup, its what ive been used to doing, taking your advice i didnt this morning and no plume of smoke, i will not be using the car today so will try again tommorrow but i think you may have solved it, thanks for the advice
