BOXTER PERFORMANCE HIKE

After 18 perfectly happy months driving my 987 3.2, I am entertaining thoughts of meddling with this well sorted car on the basis that 1. Its called the best roadster you can get but down on power 2. It shares wheels '19ins carreras', tyres, brakes and PASM with the basic 997 which delivers about 50bhp more with comensurate torque increase and 3.The boxter forum tends towards trouble shooting and cosmetics unlike some of the other registers sites.
It would appear then that the rolling boxter platform will without any modification accept reasonable power increases safely.
I would appreciate the benefit of the forums experience in defining an optimum sensible modification exercise for a boxter without recourse to the 9ff's etc etc engine rebuilds.
This could include re mapping electronics, exhaust bolt ons, or any other ideas ,including negative side effects.Saw the ad for tubi style exhausts for boxters in EVO, any good ?
I am aware that small power hikes are often poor value and that a well driven car will out perform a poorly driven more powerful rival, that weight is a major factor particularly driver and passenger, interesting to know the reationship between dress size and bhp.
Thanks
John
Ps thought Saturday at Eynsham was pleasant, camping was fine and the le Mans series race at Donnington on Sunday was perfect fit for a good weekend.

Unless you throw serious money at it you're not going to see massive gains on a normally aspirated engine.

DMS Automotive will do you a remap for about £800 that should get you all of 20bhp at most.

Exhausts, with less restrictive cats might get you 20bhp max, and set you back about £1600 for a supersprint system.

You onlky have to look at what the tuners are doing to the 987 and Kman to extract extra power - ie drop in a 3.8 997S engine !. At £12k + for an engine its not the most popular mod!.

You could go the supercharger route - Ninemeister have done this on the 996 and 986 models.

Another way to look at it might be to invest in driver tuition (unless you're already a dab hand or Walter Rorhl!) as this is generally the fastest way to go quicker!
Good luck whichever route you take
Rob
