Good Evening all,
I am just about to PX my 2010 Boxter 987 pdk that I have owned for 5.5 years mileage 82 K for £14,000
I am buying a 2013 Agage Grey 981 pdk with pebble grey leather and just 13K on the clock for 36K
Just before I sign on the line, does this sound like a good deal?
Thanks,
Stu

Stu,

I assume that yours is a 2.9L? I’m not sure who’s offering you just £14k for your car - an official Porsche dealer maybe? - but that sounds a bit light to me. Have you taken the opportunity to research typical prices for your car on sites like Autotrader, PistonHeads or even WBAC, Motorway, etc.? It’s also worth checking some of the sites for typical prices for the 981 you’re looking to purchase.

If you want to try selling privately the Club’s website is a good starting point:

Try we buy any car, they offered me £6k more than the OPC who bombarded me with e-mails to buy my car

981 prices seem pretty firm at the moment, peak season and not many about.

Difficult to judge your buy price, as it depends on the car spec, type of dealer and also condition and service schedule. The length and type of warranty offered should be added in.

At 8 years and very low mileage it will have some time based servicing, the original tyres may need replacing due to age and also I would like to see a battery replacement by now (these can be be surprisingly expensive through an OPC).

The fact that you’re asking here makes me think that, like many of us, you’re risk/hassle averse, so bearing that in mind, and without knowing the full spec of the cars, I think that you’re probably getting a fair deal - you might sell for more privately, and buy for less privately, but it would not be anywhere near as straightforward as the p/x which you are proposing. Go for it!

Not many 981s out there at the moment and all are at chunky enough money, especially for a 3.4S with good spec and low miles. £36K seems to be about right, there are quite a few over 40K at the moment. Quite a well specced S went up on Harbour cars a few days ago, if you like black and red interiors.

Worth putting an advert up on the club website.
Friend of mine at work put his up on here and sold it to the 2nd person who messaged him about it, and I think that was in the 1st week of advertising.

Got good money for it too.

£14k sounds cheap for a 987 PDK 2010.
I've got a 987 2007 manual and I priced this up on Autotrader valuation today and its worth £11k trade in, not taking in to consideration the £10k of options it had when specced new such as full leather, sat nav, Carrera S alloys etc.

Hell, for £14k if I'd not just had all the coolant pipes replaced on mine and a full set of ignition coils I'd be interested myself!

Oh yes, if you're a paid up member you can get the nice chaps at Cornbury house to do you a PCGB valuation.

Hey All,

In answer to your responses....

I've Never used a forum before. Thank you so much for your advice.
Its good to hear genuine comments from people who are happy to help and not just try to make a buck out of us!

Just so you know, my 987 2.9 pdk " Black With Black" was valued at 14K on WBAC & Motorway, the 981 I am looking to buy is a standard not an 'S'
It just seems to me that all used cars are just on the increase at the moment, especially Porsches.
It's hard when you love our brand so much to try to think with your head and not your heart...
there seems to be a premium for 981's, as the 718's with the 4 cyl are not so popular so I am reading...
Any thoughts on that?

Well in that case then, as a follow up to my previous post, I’m pretty happy if my 30k 2 years ago for a 13 plate is anything to go by...good luck with yours....it doesn’t really matter what others think. If you feel comfortable with the deal then go for it. I’m guessing you’ve been keeping an eye on comparisons.....

boxster 981 prices are holding well, bought mine in 2016 ,i paid 35k for it then with 9800 miles on clock from opc ,quite high spec leather seats, pcm, bose, climate control, heated seats 19inch s alloys, sports exhaust tailpipe, front and rear parking sensors i wanted a manual car as its more of a drivers car! and there were only 4 manual cars on opc website when i bought it,its only on 16000 miles now,i would say thats a fair price as on auto trader they are around about 31 k with many more miles and if its from a opc they put 2 years warranty on car ,as your car has 82k on i would say miles are a bit high, that is a very good price for a trade in, in 2016 opc only offered me 9k for my 2006 2.7 boxster with 38k on in the end sold it to a friend for 10k,he still has car today
