Boxter Tyres

My daughter's 2001 2.7 Boxter is due a set of tyres. Currently has Pirelli P Zero's. Any thoughts or experience of other makes/prices most welcome before we break the bank!

Big fan of the michelins they are expensive but if you wait for the costco 20% of a set it works out pretty good I got a set of 18" Michelin pilot sports for £616 and they are great.

They do this offer twice a year.

I've had Pirelli on since new, and been happy with them. Can't compare with other makes, but didn't want to have one make on fronts and another on rears, as a part way to a change of make. So in the absence of dissatisfaction, stuck with them. With my smooth (or Captain Slow) driving style I get around 18K miles on rears, and 32K on fronts.

Last week I was trying to get a pair of Rossos 255/40 ZR17 N3s, and learnt from my local fitter that they were on back order, possibly available in March. The chap was helpful and suggested that I try www.mytyres.co.uk, or the OPC in Colchester. The former's web site was very efficient; you can buy the tyres and they will send them to fitters in your area, so they can fit. Included in their fitters was my local preferred fitter. Out of interest I tried Porsche Colchester, and they had them in stock, at £158 each - which was cheaper than online. So on Monday I popped down, had them fitted whilst enjoying an espressochoc in pleasant surroundings.

Just to back up Richard's observation - NEVER mix tyre makes.

I'd go for Michelins or Pirellis personally. I've been very happy with both.

Richard and Mark are spot on. I'm perfectly happy with Pirellis, and as the fronts and rears never wear out at the same time, that's just as well. My independent who sold me my 986 S and who continues to service it recommends Pirellis.

I just replaced all the tyres on mine about a couple of months ago, went with the Continentals. While waiting in the tyre fitters waiting room I was browsing through an Auto Express magazine that had an article on an independant test on the top makes for wear, grip, energy saving, use in the wet, noise etc. and the Conti's came out top.

I bought Conti Sport 3 N1 rated 17" wheels Kwick Fit £532 fitted to be fair it was a year ago but prices should not have gone up that much Do not not buy N rated as you are wasting your money as any savvy buyer knows Porsches should have N tyres

Brian,

I think this is a little clearer - hope you don't mind...?
