Brake and Fuel Lines

Looks like I am going to have to be raiding the piggy bank to get both of these replaced in the not too distant future. Has anyone had any recent experience of how much this is likely to hurt, erm I mean cost please ?

Hi Jon

Not recent but when I did mine which must be over 10 years ago now the parts were pretty steep..a couple of hundred for pipework and new clips to hold them. It's pretty labour intensive too so if your going to use OEM parts perhaps best to try and do it yourself, you will need access to a ramp though and drop the torsion bar as the pipes are long and you need a lot of ground clearance to get the pipework over the torsion bar. i would say it isn't possible to fit OEM parts without the use of a ramp. On the other hand some have had success with various types of hose, or new copper tube replacing just the rusted section which is bound to be the part which has failed that goes over the top of the torsion bar.

The OEM pipes I believe are now made into pieces to make them easier to replace... I have a couple of these which I keep meaning to get replicated in Stainless Steel. Idoubt they will be any cheaper, just shiny, and theoretically last longer, but with the original ones lasting 20+ years, I think that is a reasonable service interval anyway!

OEM Porsche Fuel lines come as 4 separate part numbers because it is cheaper for Porsche to ship them as smaller parts (they are quite long when as one)

Prices for the 4 bits:

£57.93
£48.31
£51.75
£55.99

The connectors that you need to join each half are £11.12 each and the plastic fixings (now one piece not two piece as OE) are £1.43 each. All of the above plus Vodka and Tonic obviously.

OEM brake lines are similarly expensive so I made my own.

That doesn't seem a bad price for OE fuel lines imo.

I'm sure I had heard of people paying around £350 in parts.

Jon,
Assuming a well engineered solution which you will require, it can cost £1500, or £500 without getting your hands dirty, or if you wanted to get the tools out it could be done for £200
It is an unusual job in that there is huge scope for unnecessary cost.

Thanks for the replies folks - am picking up the car tomorrow after its service and belt change so will ask then for a budget price and see how it compares with all your experiences. Will let you know !
