Brake caliper decals?

Guest

New member
I'm going to be repainting my brake calipers and at the moment they have the white 'porsche' lettering on them which appears to be a decal. Obviously this will need replacing after painting.
Presumably the decals need to be able to withstand highish temperatures on the caliper.

My OPC parts guy says they cannot supply replacement decals but he thinks a graphics place in England, possibly Liverpool, does them. He can't remember the name though.
Anyone have any ideas on this supplier or suggest any other suitable ones please?
Thanks

If it's your S2 calipers your painting then there are no decals on the calipers. The Porsche logo is cast onto the side of the caliper. The best way to do it is to paint the caliper then get a Dremmel with a cylindrical grinder and run it over the raised cast Porsche logo to grind off the paint and expose the parent metal underneath. It's a job on my list too.

It is my S2 calipers but I'd better take a closer look then because it seems to have decals on them. The lettering is definitely white not bare metal, but I must admit I haven't had the wheels off and poked around in detail yet.
I've ordered some decals anyway, they're only £9.

the later ones had the decals on, if you buy S2 or turbo rears brand new, they come as the decal type, as do the fronts.

My S2 has decals on all 4 calipers.

You can buy replacement decals from Design 911 for 3.95 each.......I have recently re-painted my calipers (black again) and during the preparation, a good clean proved that the existing lettering is fine. I think the decals are very slightly smaller than the original lettering but will still look great after a refurb if your existing stuff looks tatty.

I think that your calipers have been painted previously in the past and the Porsche logo painted white. Mine are bare metal on all four calipers but the raised lines above and below are black.

No I've cleaned one up today for painting and they are definitely decals on them.
Mine is a '92 car so as Andy says above the later ones must have had decals.

They did, my 90 rears do and I remember Nick Fearns S2 also has decals, they do not have the raised lettering/lines

Porsche didn't use any decals on calipers.Originally calipers were anonized black, then Porsche lettering was painted on calipers. The final touch was a clear coating. I have dried decals on calipers, but they cannot handle the heat.
My 951 have GT2 front and GT3 rear calipers. They were powder coated yellow and after that Porsche lettering was painted with special heat proof paint.

Olli, did I read about your GT2/GT3 installation on Rennlist?? If so i'd like to see some photo's as it sounds like a superb project. I am not a Rennlist member so cannot view links and photo's.

Cheers

These Pictures are taken from Pete's project. I have a similar setup. We are using special Ferodo brake pads (successor of 3000 racing series pads).
To have GT2 front and GT3 rear calipers is about the same kind of job like to have big reds. We had special adapters manufactured for us according to our own drawings. We also have special handbrake shoe adapters to accept GT3 rear disks. To old ET cars GT3 rear disk is a bolt on item. It's much easier to have these GT2 front calipers to be installed on non S 951.It's very difficult to fabricate adapters to 951 S spindles.
