Brake caliper problem

Hi chaps

Doing a routine brake fluid change on the S2 today turned into a bit of a nightmare when I managed to strip the thread out of a bleed screw on the nearside front caliper. Thanks to Simon at Hillcrest in Nettlebed I am still on the road as he lent me a caliper until I can get a refurb done, but I'm just considering how to proceed:

1. Get my caliper sleeved and refurbished (where can I send them?)
2. Buy a used caliper off ebay/other
3. An alternative part fitment - is anything else in the Porsche range that I could replace both fronts with?
4. Does anyone have a nearside front caliper in good working condition they'd be prepared to sell me please?

All views/risks/suggestions appreciated!

Thanks, Craig

I take it that you can't fix it with a tap and die set? If not, how about a helicoil?

I could send it off for someone to do a helicoil repair but I'm told it's difficult to get the right size so the bleed nipple will fit. Not sure where to send it either.

Just wondering if 968 calipers will be a direct fit as I have seen a front pair from a Club Sport at reasonable money.

Never been sure about helicoils on a calliper. A good engineering shop could TIG the hole up & retap M10 x 1 but it maybe easier to get another.

I had one of mine helicoiled after I removed a bleed nipple and the thread came out with it.

The tricky bit is getting the thread perfectly perpendicular to the face inside which the nipple seats on (so it doesn't leak). I took it to the engineering shop we use at work and they took it to someone else who did a great job. The thread isn't unusual (M10 x 1 I believe)

I went for the pair of 968 refurbished calipers which arrive Wednesday and I'll fit on Saturday. And Simon at Hillcrest says he'll buy my old ones off me so that'll bring the the cost down somewhat. All turned out OK in the end...
