Brake Caliper Refurb

Apols for gatecrashing your forum but there always seems to be so much going on here.

Out of sheer vanity I'm contemplating gettting my brake calipers re-furbed becasue they let the side down now that I've had the wheels done. Can anyone recommend a firm that can re-powdercoat the calipers and apply a fresh Porsche decal?

Obviously I'll get the mechanical bits overhauled too but my regular specialist can handle that.

Cheers

Try RPM in Herts or Daytona Coachworks in Stevenage. If you do go ahead with it be sure to follow it up with some before and after pics please...[;)]

Thanks guys.

RPM came up with the best price and I know they have a good rep round these parts so I expect they will get the business.

Pics to follow.

Just out of interest James, how much did they quote you and what work is included in that, caliper plates etc?

I have some s/h 4 pot calipers that i bought for the rear of my 'Beetle' to replace the weedy 2 pots ones, but they need to be refurbed and repainted to match the red fronts. The caliper plates don't appear to be too bad, but I still want them done right before heading out on track!

My car came via RPM - nice bunch of guys.[:)]

James - Just the standard black.

Nick - £290 to strip, powder coat and rebuild all four. I'm hoping that will include caliper plates but didn't get to speak to RPM today. I'll update if it's any different.

Just to let you know, RPM did a great job on my calipers and they are now back on the car.

The only hairy moment came when Parcelforce temporarily lost the calipers between Hillcrest and RPM...

I have 'before' pics but not afters as yet.

Cheers

There is a company on Ebay offering kits for the 4 pot calipers, contain new pistons, seals, bolts, dus seals, plates, etc, etc. £58.95 per kit so pretty cheap compared to the Porsche stuff. Bigg Red also sell seal kits as well, £37.95 which is for 2 calipers worth, they are seals and dust boots only though.
Just done these for Scam75s Turbo S. Seals and boots were perfect so not bothered to change them. The 928 S4 and 250 SE calipers are the same as a 993 front but with a slighlty lower deck height. 1 hour on my friends planer and all the same as the originals! Quick grit blast, prime and paint! You also need to change the balance pipe from end to end!

Looking forward to seeing some pictures James, is the re-furb just cosmetic or are other parts of the calipers renewed?

The refurb involved a complete rebuild so not just cosmetic. Unfortunately, I have just cleaned the wheels and calipers in order to take some "after" pics for you found that the new PORSCHE decals applied as part of the refurb are peeling off. Grr..

Watch this space...
