Just been fettling around today cleaning etc and wondered what the calipers looked like if where to clean them. Just tried a bit of Autoglym metal polish through the spokes and i could see they where coming up in a gold colour. So next weekend the wheels are coming off. Can anyone reccomend anything to remove twenty odd years worth off brake dust and grime?

Do not use a wheel cleaner, I used famous brand and within two weeks they looked s***, very acidic!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had all four calipers refurbished at Classicar automotive in Cheshire and they rezinc them so I now use currently use a stiff brush and soapy water.

Hi Rattys. How much did they charge? Did you have to take the calipers apart and take them or can you take the car to them as i live in Cheshire. Cheers Dan. BTW not forgotten about the article for PP just trying to find the time at the mo[8|]

Dan, the company you need is Classic Car Automotive at Chelford - 01625 860910
Cheers Graham

It cost 54 pounds a caliper and all I did was take them off. They can do an exchange but I waited for mine to be overhauled and sent back new pistons seals and all bright and shiney!!!!!!

There are no special tools needed to remove the calipers just soak them thoroughly with penetrating oil first. They are relaticely easy to rebuild with a caliper kit providing the pistons aren't badly corroded.
