Hi Guys

Im new to the porsche scene .

I have just brought a 1982 944 2.5 non turbo .

Can anyone suggest a brake conversion , i read somewhere that the boxster brakes fit with an adapter kit .

Thank you
Ryan

Welcome to the scene :). The first thing I will ask you is what do you use the car for and what makes you think you need a brake conversion? The stock brakes on the Lux are very good when working properly.

Just to make it 3 out of three my lux had poor brakes. Took everything apart and cleaned (nothing technical just sandpaper and grease) put back together with EBC drilled and grooved rotors/ green stuff pads. It wasn't expensive and I've never yet had a turbo that braked as well. Pedal feel and pressure is so much better with sliders over four pot calipers and with the much lighter disks than later Brembo setup the brakes are much sharper than later cars. You should almost be able to get the back end off the ground with that set up, you DON'T need any more!

Ps mine got VERY hot occasionally but never faded with that set up. Standard (quite worn) disks used to boil the fluid after 5mins of serious driving.

ATF brake fluid will help with boiling issues. I think that without additional brake servo bigger brakes can be harder work on the foot and don't stop you much quicker.

As above: the brakes are excellent on early 944s (the same calipers stopped 911 Turbos and 928s - more power and more weight), so when theyre inadequate its usually down to their condition, or your technique. Boxster calipers can be made to fit as theyre radially mounted, using an adapter block. If you go down this route make sure that theyre front calipers and not rears.

If the brakes are fading then Id suggest that youre braking for too long. Brake as hard as you can for as little time as possible and theyll get far less hot than if you brake less hard for longer.

Thanks for the advise guys really a big help .

I have always had excellent results with the standard discs, some good brake pads and the best fluid you can afford, you wont get fade and will have brilliant pedal feel (assuming there are no actual faults with your setup).

Braided hoses are a small improvement but would be low down my list. For fluid I have had great results with Castrol Response and SRF (the latter is best but expensive), for pads I use Porterfield R-4S (quite cheap if bought from the States and awesome - and I've tried an awful lot of different models/brands over the years).

That lot wont cost a fortune (£200?) and should solve the problem once and for all.

Peter: did you take any pictures of theose D9 GTS lamps before fitting? The lenses particularly?
