can anyone recomend where to get brake discs and pads from

i want to get discs and pads all round

any advice on witch make to get ...and what not to get

for a 1988 944 2.5 lux

thanks in advance steve

CP4L are part of the same company as ECP AFAIK, just cheaper. I've overheated pads on the road, braking from speed with fading brakes and a hard pedal isn't an experience I want to repeat.

How about Textar (OE) pads?
Try Frazerpart for prices, they are usually pretty good

Textar are what I use now. Good idea to change the brake fluid if it's over 2 years old too.

yes good idea to change the fluid, all manufacturers recommend 3years as the stuff is hygroscopic (absorbs water) unless you use the silicone based stuff.

Pass. Different stockists have different deals from TMD on different brands, and only tend to stock one of them. Helps them dodge like for like price comparing I reckon, they all claim they stock the superior brand. I fit dozens of sets of Pagid per year without any issues though.

Had a quick google and you're right. Though OEM doesn't guarantee you get the same part Porsche does, just the manufacturer also supplies them. So far the Textars don't squeal, only difference I noticed is there's a plate bonded onto the back of them.

IMO, the term OEM is very misleading and should really be outlawed when selling to the public. It's either original equipment in a Porsche box, or it ain't. Many aftermarket parts manufacturers, claim to be OE suppliers to vehicle manufacturers, but that could be to any old vehicle manufacturer, not the specific one you're buying for, or indeed the specific component. Also, brand names are bought and sold all the time, so your Textar pads could be made by a company that bought the right to use the brand from the company that bought the brand name from the company that originally made brake pads for 944s in 1984. There are some exceptions. Some Lemforder suspension parts for VAG cars are clearly original parts with the VW part numbers and logos ground off the castings for example, and the Textar pads could be the same, but in general the term OEM is marketing bulls**t.

Reading the Yankee forums it seems people have bought pads from Porsche and there have been various brand names involved.

Ive had 2 sets of pagid discs from ECp warp on me. Never again will I buy discs from ECP. i went and bought brembo discs and they have been perfect.

I bought the 944 brake ducts that fit through the wheel arch liner, and the 968 ducts that fit onto the strut. Not that dear from Porsche I think.
