Brake Engineers or localish workshop?

Hi, After attempting to replace my brake pads, I have discovered that I'm (and the car) are suffering from 'plate lift' [:(]. I have the calipers off the car and now need someone or a method to remove the corroded allen screws holding the plates in place - I don't have a mig welder as mentioned in July'07 PP. Anyone know of a reasonable local workshop that has patience and time to remove the plates - 4 screws per caliper?

Are the screws rounded off? If not, why not remove them yourself? My understanding is that you have to heat the head of the screw till it's red hot to break the bond of the thread lock and they should come out. Just make sure the torx or allen key (for the earlier calipers) fits really well and you cover the pistons before applying the localised heat. Other wise I guess Tognola in Datchet should have experience.

The 'Loctite' is probably rust, or electrolytic corrosion, caused by having steel screws in aluminium, and more salt on the roads than Siberia can mine in a year. Ask any Alfasud owner about their bleed nipples. When a small lever or tommy bar is 'migged' to the screw, the process of welding usually generates sufficient heat to crack the rust, that's why it is such an effective method of getting the bistards out. What are four pot calipers now, £196 a pop? Got to be cost effective even if you have to go to a local workshop.
 
Thanks for your tips. I will try heat, providing I can clean them up enough to get a suitable allen key to fit!
 
Don't forget that the caliper can withstand a certain amount of heat; when you are going hard, what temperature do they reach under continued use? Just dont go mad. again, the mig method puts a lot of heat into a concentrated area very quickly.
