Brake Flare kit

I'm thinking of getting a brake flare kit before attempting to replace my front calipers with another pair I have. The pipe connections are seized and I think I might break them when trying to get them off.

Questions:
Should I use steel pipe instead of copper, and why?
What are the female and male end sizes? 10x1mm, 10x1.25, etc?
Anything else I should know (I've bled brakes before).

Any caliper paint suggestions as I think I'll paint the calipers before mounting them. Saw this on Ebay:

PS Have some steel braided hoses that have been lying in the garage for awhile, will be using them too.
 
When I replaced my brake lines I was also worried about shearing the brake pipe so held the nut on the end of the brake pipe still and rotated the brake pipe to remove. It seemed to work out OK.
 
I've made up pipes in the past with a kit my dad has.

Don't remember it being too difficult, but I do remember squeezing the rubber boot surrounding the front-rear blance valve as I slid under the car, and it somehow squirting brake fluid directly into my eye. [:eek:]

I've never emerged from under a car more quickly - ran in the house, stuck my face under the tap and put it on hard!

I was lucky - make sure you wear safety glasses! [&:]
 
Copper will be fine - and also easier to work with the flaring kit, especially if you are having to do any work in situ.

I used caliper paint from Porscheshop - a kit with cleaning stuff and paint for around £20 I think.
The finish was excellent and they do it in various colours.
