brake flexi hoses

fitting braided hoses at the front - i've unscrewed the union connecting the flexi hose from the brake pipe but how do you release the end of the flexi hose from the bracket?

The spring plate is like a square peice of metal with one side folded up 90 degrees so you have a tab that is about 5mm long. There is a slot cut into it and the legs have a bump bent into them giving them the spring effect. You really need to get a pair of pliers on them to pull them out. When I fitted my hoses the passenger side one was a real pig to release as it was orientated so it needed to be withdrawn into the inner arch direction. I had to try to rotate it round to an angle I could get acess to. Drivers side one was easy as the tab was orientated conveniently.

In order to minimise the chance of shearing the hard brake pipe end due to the union being siezed I removed the pipe from the caliper end and held the union still as I rotated the pipe to unscrew, then with plenty of WD40 and gentle probing with the spanner I made sure the union was freely rotating and not siezed.

cheers guys - was missing the painfully obvious there as it was covered in gunk and looked like the top spring section was attached to the car!

the problem i now have is the goodridge braided hoses has a much shorter union that the standard ones (about 6-7mm shorter?), so wont offer itself up to the hardpipe union on the other side of the sliding bracket?

any ideas?

Strange, my Goodrich hoses went straight on. I won't insult your intelligence by asking if you've got the hose the right way round, but are you sure the hoses you've got are the right part and not the wrong one supplied in error?

well it must be the correct end as one is male and the other is female - i could try bending the pipe but surely it shouldnt be necessary? heres the comparison of the old one and both ends of the braided hose....

Well based upon my recollection your hard pipe looks like it is in the right position so I don't think there is an issue there so I wouldn't suggest you should consider modifying it in any way. However the female end of your braided hose looks a little different to what I remember. Are you sure you've got the right Goodrich hose set? From memory i'm sure the length of the union was longer than the one in your photo. Unfortunately my car is in with Promax getting KW'd so I can't check it out for you, however i'll try to dig up my old rubber hoses as i'm sure I didn't throw them away.

yeah that would be great - i've gotta send the front calipers away so not be finishing it till next week anyway - cheers

Any joy with that photo Paul?

Sadly i threw the packaging away so cant check the Goodridge code

Two each of the hoses below, short one is the rear.

Does the u-shaped clip not go here -- I presume this leaves you with a gap between the end of the goodrich hose and the male pipe end in situ? Can you not bend it so it matches up as suggested above? If not it might mean a trip down to the factors to get a new brake pipe made up.

The thumbnail above isn't the pic I uploaded. Have tried several times and renaming but it won't work. Click on the pic for the proper picture.

yup they are the same as the ones i have

but the depth of the union above the groove where the u-clip goes is far less than that of the original flexi i removed?

I have got a set in a bag here that have the code on. Its a paper sticky -back printer label which frankly could be stuck onto any poly bag. Not very reassuring. the No is
