Brake light problem

The brake lights on my 944 S2 cab come on when the cluth pedal 'depressed'.

Any ideas why and how to solve the probelm would be much appreciated.

It sounds liek a short. The brake light wire has probably got entangled with the clutch pedal mechanism, and the insulation has been damaged.

You can either get down in the footwell and trace the wire to find the short, or just learn to do clutchless gear changes [:)]

It has to be to do with the pedal box and it shouldn't be too difficult to diagnose as it's all pretty basic technology in there. The brake lights are operated by a plunger switch mounted in such a way that the plunger extends when the brake pedal moves away from the stop, making the circuit and the lights illuminate. For the clutch pedal to be causing them to come on then either there is an electrical problem caused by the clutch being pressed (a short?) or somehow the clutch pedal deflects the plunger so it makes the circuit, which might be possible if the plunger is set hyper-sensitive and the clutch pedal somehow slightly deflects the brake pedal mount. I guess the pedal assembly could be damaged somehow also so allowing the deflection necessary.

It's awkward to see, but I bet it's pretty clear what's happening if you get into the driver's footwell.
