I'm about to do the front pads for the first time,it all looks pretty staightforward but I wondered about the forums being full of tales about glueing the backing plates to the rear of the pads.I've always used coppaslip on the backs of pads on previous cars, does anyone know what this adhesive is and is it required?

I've changed my pads lots of times - Aluslip or coppaslip is the only way to do it, forget about the glue advice.
Here's the 'how to' guide I use when changing mine.

Take a look on YouTube, there are plenty of vids on there showing how to attach the pads. If you do use the adhesive pads they are self adhesive as T911UK says. Personally I never used them on the 944 turbo brakes - just a liberal smear of Copperslip on the back and you should be fine, but i'm sure the adhesive pads are also fine.
