Brake Pad Light

Just got the service wear pad light on today, took a look at the pads and the rear look ok but front have about 5-6 mm left on them.
Where is the cheapest place to buy porsche approved pads?, also fitting them myself will this void my porsche warranty?

Cheers
AL

Fitting them yourself should not invalidate the Warranty and i would suggest you buy the pack including the wear sensors and shims. The pads are textar pads and the part numbers are P996.351.088.01 (Shims) P996.352.949.03 (Pads) and P996.612.365.00 (Sensors) for a 986 Boxster S. No idea who can do them cheaper but they cost me £157.38 with the PCGB discount from an OPC. So start looking for less than that.

If its the new warranty I am afraid you are at risk if you fit the pads yourself. Basically any work done by anything other than a Porsche or Porsche approved center is subject to discretion if there is a related warranty claim ie if it brakes and some one not approved by Porsche worked on it, they ain't paying out.

The whys and wherefores have been done to death elsewhere but basically if your concerned about your warranty cover, all work needs to be carried out by a Porsche center or Porsche approved independent.

Al, how many miles did you get before this warning lit up?

My 997 C2S just hit 33,000 and still on the original set of pads/discs..........I'm beginning to get worried that the brake-wear sensors are buggered!

22000 miles on the front buddy, and also had the rear ones replaced at 13000.
I must get a new set on Monday, means a drive to Aberdeen 3 hours as it the nearest porsche dealeship to me...nightmare

Just over 24k miles for the disks about half that for the pads

However that included a couple of track based training days, a 2 week trip around the swiss alps which is hard on the brakes and a few trips to the isle of man (high speed stops again) and running a Power kit for all that time and at least the additional power of a Revo Remap for half that mileage[:D]
