Brake Pad Question

I fitted a set of EBC Yellowstuff pads and EBC disc all round a couple of weeks ago. On each pad there was an electrical wire which plugs into the pad with a tiny horse-shoe shaped metal clip. I'm guessing this is the wear sensor?? I plugged these back in to the new pads. Today I noticed that two of the four had popped out and the metal clips just wont hold them in securely.

There's no warning light come on, on the dash or anything else to worry about. The brakes seem to work fine (much better than before [:D]).

Can anyone confirm what these wires are?

If they won't stay in place is there anything I should worry about?

Sounds correct but ISTR they work by bridging the circuit together, in other words if you disconnect the wiring you never see the warning light for brake pads.

I dare say a dab of superglue wouldn't go amiss. As long as you don't apply it o the contact on the front of the sensor that would prevent the electrical contact being made. At least for a short while anyway until it wore through.

Let's just get this straight for clarity purposes [:)]

The warning light comes on when the wire through the sensor gets worn through. If they won't stay in place and you do still want to use the facility, then new sensors are only around a tenner from the Porsche dealer

does this mean that the sensor is triggered only when it is worn through (affectively becoming damaged by breaking the electrical circuit). And at that point you would then need to buy a new sensor (and obviously change your pads). That's my understanding so far - please correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks for the super glue tip Rob [:D].

Sonny,

Yes, that matches with my understanding.

BUT I know that some people have spoken of being able to re-use the sensors if they aren't used for too long while worn out. As if there is a point at which they are worn enough to illuminate the light, but if they are then fitted to some new pads then they won't illuminate the light, which I don't understand.
