Brake pads/discs check

Hi all.

I'm booked for the Brands Hatch track day on the 27th and want to check the brake pads & discs before I go - the fluid was changed in January so should be ok.

I have the image from the Boxster brakes web page showing me where to measure, but does anyone know if the 996 4S brakes are any different? Does anyone know what range of thicknesses are ok for the pads and the discs?

No lights showing yet, obviously, but I don;t want to track the car with the pads on the limit.

TIA

Hi Michael

Can't help with your question, although I have successfully burnt out 3 brake sensors on track days this year so if your light isn't showing yet, it may well do so after Brands.

I will be there too, silver 996. See you then.

Here are the limits for the 996 C4. I hope this helps.

Richard,

When replacing the discs & pads, are there any other ancillary bits that you would also recommend changing. I understand there are anti-vibration shims (?) What about the pad thickness sensors? Any other bits that are used to hold the pads in place?

Or did you just replace the pads & discs and reuse all other ancillary parts?

Thanks, Jason

I replaced the dampening pads (c£4 each - 4 needed) but re-used the wear sensors as they weren't touched (ease them out carefully). I also re-used the pins and retaining clips.
