Brake pads

Soon I am going to have to change the front brake pads on my 2007 MY 987.
I was thinking of fitting EBC reds- has anybody got any thoughts ?

Unless you are doing lots of track days and want to hear them grind when cold or in slow traffic, just stick to texstar pads from Design911 or similair. Plus the sticky pads etc........

Reds are a direct replacement for the standard pads, yellows are for track use. The reds do not grind, squeek or anything else, they produce no dust so your wheels stay clean, and there is a special backing on them so you don't need to buy the anti-squeel pads required on the standard pads.

I thought only the Boxster S had the anti squeel pads ? Does anyone know if DP31207C is the correct part number ?

Blacks are the direct replacement [link=http://www.ebc-brakes-uk.co.uk/ebc-black.php]http://www.ebc-brakes-uk.co.uk/ebc-black.php[/link]

When you go through the order process it will tell you REDS are the direct replacement. [link=http://www.brakes4u.co.uk/supersearch.asp?step3=yes&catType=C&catParent=1&pMake=PORSCHE]EBC web link[/link]

Yes it does- as I thought the reds are direct replacements. (My Panda would have blacks though) Are the pads on a 2.7 986 the same as on a 2.7 987 ? EBC don't seem to distinguish them even though the dics are different (cross drilled on the 987) Do the EBC pads have the slot for the wear sensor ?

You would want black and white pads on the Panda surely ) Yes the 987 and 986 pads are the same and EBC's have the hole for the wear sensors. If your careful you can re-use the sensors from your old pads.

Better Red then dead! [:D]

Are there any pitfalls to changing them myself ? There is another post one here of somebody who used an Indy to change pads and discs and ended up going to an indy to have the ABS light switched off.

Me and Mark did Nic's for him with no real problems! [;)]

Well I've ordered some EBC red pads; a break wear sensor for each side; a brake pad fitting kit and I've got a tube of copper ease- that should cover everything.

Are you selling some Nick? pm me if so. EBC pads don't need the anti squeel shims or copper slip, they have a coating on the back of the pads as I mentioned in the 4th post down.

Extremely useful info Ton. And apologies - everything is in this thread - I'd just forgotten what I'd read here! [&o]
