Brake Pedal Issue 981 Cayman

My experience of this fault as the 981 CS manual owner Ralph referred to is that the brakes did not release as the techie remarked on it when he drove it into the workshop, it took them at least 5 hrs to replace the bushes on mine as they clutch pedal had to come out first. Chris

On Planet-9, but I don't think posted as an issue on this forum, is the following:

The 'top hat' bushes in the brake pedal fulcrum are the wrong spec. When heated by the footwell heater vents, they expand and prevent free movement of the pedal, holding the brakes 'on' a little. This causes the auto stop start failure and PSM failure lights to illuminate. Turning down the heater setting and increasing the sir flow in the foot well will fix it - or 'in extremis' helping the brake pedal up to maximum travel with your toe achieves a temp. fix. OPC will fit new spec. bushes (in about 12 minutes!) which is a pain if you do not live close to them............

I asked my OPC whether the new bushes could be fitted to my 981 CS, but the PSM error needs to have been reported in the ECU, else the OPC cannot get reimbursed. So what do I do if it occurs? QUOTE "just hook your shoe under the brake lever and pull it back up and the car can be recovered - we keep the parts in stock and are allowed 1 hour to fit the new components" END QUOTE

The 12 minutes in the Planet-9 post is a huge understatement on the time required, particularly for manual cars apparently.

It is VIN specific however there have been instances with cars outside the VIN range.

This is a Technical Bulletin, not a Campaign nor a Recall, make of that what you will.
