Brake Pipe Replacement

Hi

My car is in need of brake pipe replacement as the current ones are badly corroded. I understand that there is one pipe that needs to go over the gearbox and as a consequence the engine needs to be dropped in order to replace it.

I read somewhere that someone had come up with a solution which uses a flexible pipe which can be installed without dropping the engine.

I cannot remember where I read it, has anybody seen it and point me to the right direction?

Thanks

David

Hi David

Sorry cannot find the link. As you say, if you can access the leak, then it would be possible to repair the section. Be sure the flexible pipe is braided or at least certified for brake systems. I would see this as a temporary fix or until it is a convenient time to drop the engine for clutch etc. for complete replacement. In my 944 days, the cheapest option was to buy VW camper brake lines and re-engineer them.

I have just had this fix from Dovehousecars for my 996. The hose that goes over the gearbox has been replaced with a braided/covered race part that can be fed through & connected with minimal fuss. Still not a cheap job, but cheaper than dropping the box.
