Brake pressure light on at start-up

Hi all,

On my c4s I am getting the 'brake pressure check' light staying on for up to a minute after start. It only started doing it last week and can be a little random. The manual doesn't help much apart from suggesting you don't drive until the pressure light is out. What I am asking is am I in for a big bill because the pressure wang-doodle is on its way out or is it pretty normal? Seems to have got worse in the hot weather too....

Cheers,

Mark

Don't you have the Turbo brakes?.....Surely this is just the brake acumulater resevoir filling, the noise being the pump...once the required pressure is reached and the tank is full, the light goes out.
I have had a minute wait before, but using the car more seems to get the time down,,,hopefully nothing to worry about..at least the light is going out!

It's probably worth while to check the fluid level before you get too paranoid!! The 964 is very sensitive to hydraulic fluid level and often only slightly low will cause a problem like this. I susp[ect the system in the 993 is very similar.

Dave

I had the same problem with my C4. It goes out almost immediately now that I use a CTEK battery conditioner (which I highly recommend if you only use the car infrequently).

Cheers,

Perfectly normal. Mine's been doing this on and off for three years. Sometimes the brake pressure pump buzzes away for a few seconds, other times for about half a minute. Occassionaly the warning light will stay on for a few seconds, most of the time it goes straight out. Try letting a bit of pressure build up by leaving the ignition on for a few seconds before starting the car. You should find the light goes straight out most of the time.

Unfortunately this is common and perfectly normal. My C4 has also been doing this on and off for years.
If my memory serves me correctly I think the manual also suggests that you not drive until the light goes out. "" It has never taken longer than twenty odd seconds to go out.

Thanks guys...

There is plenty of fluid in the system so I suspect it is on the 'normal' side. Just a little alarmed as it didn't do it at all for the first 6 months of this year. It always goes out within 30 seconds and once I have used it once that day it seems fine. I drive it almost every day so it gets well used!

I am just happy it isn't a big '993 brake' bill [:)]
