Brake temps.

Has anybody used temp sensive paint to establish the operating tems for a 964 RS brakes. I want to make an informed choice of new pads for both road and track work. Having spoken to a few people, I find that the most popular pad for this application is Pagid orange which is not the one I would have thought of.

Seems a popular choice, but the packaging is marked 'Not for road use'.........

Mine squeal when cold and need heavy use.

I have ben using pagid blue which are great but do squeal on the road.
I have noticed they also chew up the disc more than the Porterfields i used last time.

However, I also have a '72 RS replica with 3.5ltr which also ran porterfields but i recently changed to Performance Friction and have got to say I am very impressed.
A few of the guys who run at knockhill in Scotland have went this route and we are all impressed.
Great feel, wear, stopping ability and no squeal on road
They are also slightly cheaper than Pagid
If you call them direct you can maybe get a trade sale
regards

Used Pagid Black in my Boxster S. Slightly more road biased (no squeal) but very good for track use.
Suspect the S has bigger callipers / discs than an unmodified RS, but it's also a fair bit heavier.

Go straight to Pagid Yellows ,last twice as long as blues and longer than orange , ,kind to ur disks and clean them up ................a little expensive and will squeal even with shims, for track days just brilliant.

Thanks for the replies, chaps. IMO, this leads to more questions rather than less!! I really am uncertain as to why people like "orange" so much. "Black" (RS14) would apear to be a better choice unless Porsche brakes run fairly cold but even then, I cannot see the benefit of Orange. And if you are going for Black, you might as well go for the new Grey which grip like nothing before! I guess the issue would be how easy it is to regulate your braking with such a high friction pad

So the first question is, do RS brakes run fairly cold (c.350 - 400 degrees). I know it is circuit dependent but its certainly worth knowing.

As for the Performance Friction, I have heard a lot about them but seen no hard data. I don't even know which compound is recommended.

To really know I guess I need to buy some temp sensitive paint and get testing.

Performance friction 97 compound seems to work well.
Get testing and let us know the benefits of your research.

Thanks I needed a laugh! Having just had a s##t pm culminating in a PC crash that has lost 2.5 hrs of CAD work I was feeling a bit, how can I put this(?), low [;)]

At least you didn't say its because orange is a pretty colour! That would have been a deciding factor if it had been my wife!
