Brake upgrade

I was thinking of upgrading my brakes to 4 pot calipers and drilled discs.
What calipers do i need and will they bolt straight on or are modifications needed?
Thanks
Nick

I have just put Boxster front 4 pot calipers + 944 turbo (non drilled) discs on mine + cooling ducts. You do need an adaptor braket (available from Autofarm) to fit the calipers but the set up worked really well at Spa the other week.

Do most people just tend to upgrade the fronts and leave the rears?
What calipers other than boxters will fit?
Thanks

You can get a new 4 pot brembo kit, including pads, brake lines and mounting kit for £495... I don't know how much difference they would make as they fit on the standard rotors, but I'm sure someone who understand brakes can but in a say if they are worth while..[8|]
I can't remember the guys name who made the kit but his mobile is 07968350232, he attended the last auto jumble...

cheers adam.

Do a search - there is a lot of info on here, including from me.

The summary is that you can do about 4 different levels of upgrade assuming you want to stay with Fuchs:

1. Get the standard stuff working properly with good fluid and track pads - Pagid Blues, Porterfield R4S etc. New thick discs and recon calipers plus braided lines. This should be enough for anything on the road and should work for moderate track use (why do you want to upgrade?).

2. Boxster calipers on the front and otherwise std. Some have good results with this as it increases clamping force but does nothing for the thermal reserves.

3. 944T/964 front calipers over early 944T discs. Increases clamping force, gets you a bigger pad area and gives you a bigger front disc for better thermal reserves. Requires removal of pv in order to keep the bias close to std. It needs a 5mm spacer for disc clearance vs the ball joint so this makes it tight on wheel/tyre clearance if you are running 225 front tyres. The caliper needs machining and an adapter to fit but you can get it done for circa £1000 if you find second hand calipers. I think Andy has this set-up with Boxster calipers, but I am not sure how this works as Boxster calipers are designed for 24mm thick discs and these are 28mm thick. He can no doubt explain - it may be a different caliper than the one I am thinking of.

4. 930 discs and calipers front and rear. The daddy of Fuchs compatible upgrades. Big discs front and rear and 4 pot calipers all round. Even better if you use 993 calipers as you get a bigger caliper with differential pistons and bigger pads. It is my belief (perhaps incorrect) that this will not fit inside a 7x16 front Fuchs unless you use a 951 7x16 which has more room for calipers and countersunk lug holes. Likewise an 8x16 951 Fuchs will work. This is a bigger dollar upgrade but recent kits i the states have come down a lot in price.

For a one-stop shop try VCI in the US or talk to Autofarm (expensive) or 9M. JAZ did mine in Wembley but I sourced all the parts.

Also, to really stop fast you need big sticky tyres. If you can lock the front wheels already, you won't stop any faster with a brake upgrade.
