Brake Warning Message

Hi Chaps

Its been a long time of radio silence but that doesn't mean I'm not enjoying the car.

I have just changed the front discs and pads along with wear sensors, all from the brilliant Design 911 brake kit. However, I now have the "service brake wear" warning message on the OBC.

I expect this question has been asked a dozen or more times but I have searched the forum and can't find any reference to it. So, is there a way of clearing the message without specialist equipment? Or do I need to find somebody with the kit to do it?

Thanks for any help.

Also, although sad to see it go I'm thinking about changing my car. What should I replace it with?

Regards

The message should clear by itself, so I think you may still have a problem.

First, are you sure it isn't the fluid level warning light?

The wear sensors are connected in a loop running from the instrument cluster, from wheel to wheel, and back to the cluster. Either a break in the circuit, or a short to ground, will trigger the light. Check all the connectors are making a good contact, and that the sensors are properly seated in the pads.

Edit: And have a go in a Cayman! [:D]

I definitely get the brake wear warning in the computer display. When I ok it then the brake warning light remains lit. I will check the connections again although it seemed a sweet job.

I tested the new Cayman a few weeks ago and loved it but it was woefully underpowered compared to a 911. Which means it would have to be a Cayman S. They had the perfect one in the showroom that I would have gladly driven away in, just as it was. Unfortunately, there were sixty two thousand reasons why that wouldn't happen. Gulp!

If you don't need the 2 rear seats for the legless dwarfs Stuart, I'd certainly recommend that you try out a more affordable Gen2 Cayman S if 981 prices are still too high for you.

Hope you get the brake problem sorted.

Jeff

Thanks Jeff

Cayman S is high on the list.

I'm amazed though that nobody is suggesting a 997 or a 996 Turbo.................

Problem sorted, thanks Richard. It was a loose connection.

Just need to get her on top form ready for sale now.

Regards
