brake wear indicator

hi all,

a few weeks ago, my brake pad wear indicator indicator came on. i presumed it as my front pads (oldest ones) so i booked it in at an indy, they took all the wheels off, but they said could not find any pads that needed replacing (i believe this is the diametric opposite to what an an OPC would do :p). they gave all the wires a wiggle and said they thought it was just a loose connection somewhere. this appeared to be confirmed when i mentioned that the light would come on even if i hadn't pressed the brake pedal.

lo and behold, the light went off and stayed off for a few weeks, but has now started coming on again, still sometimes when i haven't pressed the brake pedal.

i just wanted to check that a loose connection or similar is still the most probable diagnosis as i'm going on a track day in a few weeks time and would rather not change the pads unnecessarily.

A dodgy connection sounds the most probable cause to me, and it isn't uncommon. I would suggest disconnecting each of the wear sensor connector plugs and spraying contact cleaner inside and putting them back together.

I have exactly the same problem, cam on on the way to the Blenheim Palace event while I was driving along without touching the brake pedal. Then on restarting the car it did not come on again until a few days later. I know its not the front pads on mine since they were replaced a few months back. I was assuming it may be the rears. Does anyone know if the sensors are all round?

Yes, there are sensors on each pad. Item 7:

cheers for that, think i'll try giving it a go :) presumably the connector plugs are quite obvious!

EDIT: just saw richard's latest post, thanks :)
