Brakes and stuff

Up to now I haven't really been going fast enough to need to use the brakes but as the pads are nearing the end of their useful life I thought I might replace them before the season starts.

Any advice welcome. Also wrt to brake fluid is it worth upgrading from standard cooking spec?

Thanks in advance.

Nick

Hi Nick

I've replaced the discs and pads on my RS a couple of times now and still use the original equipment discs supplied from Design911 or PorscheShop...

Pads are Pagid Oranges which are a little tricky until hot and they squeel like a pig which is not great, but they are stunning when up to temp. You might want to try Blues as they are 95% the same and a lot quieter.

As for fluid I have always used Castrol SRF, and replaced it every year when getting the car out of hibernation as it is susceptible to water ingress.

I am sure the masses will give you more insight in due course.

Cheers

If, as you say, you haven't been driving fast enough so far to really use the brakes, i would suggest sticking with standard pads. They're fine for fast road use and even some track work. Plus you don't have to put up with the annoying squeal that Ollie mentions. Fluid upgrade is always a good idea though. Not an authority on which one, so i won't comment on that.

Martin

ATE Racing Blue Dot 4 and Pagid RS4-2 blues are my recommendation if for road and track use.

EBC pads and ap 600.

Cheaper than standard, less dust, no squeal, work well on the track and road.

Oh and if you get any EBC haters telling you they are rubbish and you must try pagids smile sweetly and spend the £400+ savd on more trackdays! Pagids have the most annoying squeal ever and unless you are racing and wanting to put in a time make little difference.

Used both on my 964. Currently use EBC on 993.

I have ebc on mine. Seem to work ok but have not really extensively trialled them. At Spa after breaking in correctly they performed well. Mine are yellows and they do squeal a bit ! SRF or ATE blue get good reviews I use Castrol response the higher spec one can't remember the exact name which is a little chaeper than the ate blue with similar spec.

Laurence, it's 'Castrol Response Super Dot 4'. I use it too and am very happy with it's performance.

Castrol SRF on brake fluid I think and Pagid Yellows on the pads.

tried the Pagid blues and they leave deposits on the discs under hard braking on track and screw up your handling.

My yellows are fantastic and get no squeal at all.

Thanks for the advice guys, good to know you are unanimous on the point!

John, I do get out from time to time albeit last year was a bit of a disaster trackday wise. Out yesterday as a matter of fact to take advantage of the fact the rain had washed away all the salt. Started first time and a treat to hear all that grumbling and gurgling, whistling and clattering after too much time in the family fordor.

But I will try harder this season.

Cheers

Nick

ps Sorry I can't make 28th but hope you have a good evening
