Brakes n stuff

Had an RAC inspection on my old work horse and the inspector said my car was in excellent condition apart from the following.

Discs all 4 are a bit in the thin side
Clutch fluid scorched? what causes that?

I have ordered 4 new discs and some ebc green stuff pads and want to know if these are hard to fix yourself? RAC man says it very easy, but i dont know if he was relating to porsches or cars in general.

I think your car has single pot calipers or at least all the pots are on one side.

This makes them like most cars on the road these days and an easy job.

Marcus, If you can unbolt things and bolt them back on again then brakes are easy. My car has the later callipers but is essentially the same. I followed instructions in the ' Garage Workshop' at www.clarks-garage.com an excellent DIY site

Scorched clutch fluid sounds like it' s been overheated by riding the clutch possibly or too many traffic light Grand Prix' s? [:D] Wouldn' t harm to change it if you are concerned. There is a guideline to bleeding the clutch on Clarks too, but I' ve never tried this myself.

.................Scorched clutch fluid............................

Could this just be because the hose between the master and slave cylinders runs above the exhaust.

Might it even be a scortched hose. I have never heard the term " scorched fluid" before.

Took the car to Porschtech in Bristol who were puzzled by the term scorched clutch fluid but i got them to change it, i was probally caused by too many traffic light grand prix (ill have to stop doing it as the petrol alone is costing me a bomb :))

Had the power steering pump tightened to cure the rattle and it runs like a dream. I was going to sell the car as the rattle was doing my head in but now its runs smoother than a babies bum and apart from the discs its in a1 mechanical condition, not bad for a 3 grand 20 year old motor.
