Brakes & Tyres for trackdays??

I need some new tyres and brakes on my 996 C4, and was planning on doing a couple of trackdays next year. I'm not after the really exotic Yoko's as I'm only interested in doing one or two days on the track, so would like to have some tyres which or good at both road and track use. Also, has onyone upgraded their pads to fast road or race pads?? I want to get a full set of pads which don't squeal at slow speeds - any recommendations?? Bought the car with Conti Sportcontact N1, and don't really rate them very much.

Cheers

Pirelli P Zerp Rosso's are good for a bit of both and if you are thinkig of doing a couple of track days I would suggest sticking with Porsche std pads. Pirelli are offering 25% discount at certain official outlets at the moment so good deals to be had if you shop around. Most aftermarket performance pads have some issues with fit or squeal which I find quite a pain.

Hello Yoda, already pushed quite hard with the brakes and picked up vibration after a while. I also find the pedal feel a bit "numb", already bled the brakes so it can't be that!
I have driven some other 996's and they all display the same characteristics with the brakes. You don't much feel back on the pedal. I really like sharp, sensitive biting brakes which allow you to brake accurately up to the limit of lock up. I just don't get that feel on my car, so wanted to try some more abrasive pads.

Done 4 track days with my C2 Cab. P Zero assymmetrico's on the back seemed just fine and have worn well. Had a severe problem with brake judder which I completely cured by fitting new porsche front discs. Now get excellent braking response with porsche pads. Gives me complete confidence, even when storming up to 'Stirling Moss' bend at Goodwood which I found I was approaching at 135! Basically, I can stomp this car as hard as my nerve will allow and it feels very secure, if a bit soft (well, its a girly cab, what do you expect?!!). I drop pressures by 0.5bar all round as this then means that the temperatures become normal at track speeds (as measured immediately after coming into the pits).

My C4 has Conti's fitted on 18" wheels and I've tracked the car a couple of times this year. I really was'nt impressed with the performance of the tyres at all on the track. They just seemed to lack grip, sometimes alarmingly so. I hear good reports also on the Rossos so I'm going to try those next time myself

You could try some Pagid Blues.... they do tend to squeal very occasionaly but not as bad as I thought they would. Easily liveable with (sorry for the poor English).

For tyre choice I had Bridgestone SO2's and found them really good. And how many PSI is 0.5bar??? I would suggest you need to drop pressure to 28 - 29 front and 30 - 31 rear when HOT.

The next obvious step and a cheap one is to change to ATE sooper blue brake fluid.
