BRAKES

It clearly is a warranty issue. For one pad to wear down to the metal in 1500 miles would point to the caliper piston sticking. I would be ranting and raving at the OPC if they told me that!

Hi Bought a brand new 997TURBO S from porsche ********** in dec 2010 ,the car`s done 1500 miles and one pad on one calliper on one side is down to the metal .They say its not a warranty problem .Anybody had similar problems and any advice
Cheers

If the pad has worn through normal wear and tear then NO its not warranty. However as Geoff says the cause may well be a warranty issue. For the car to have only covered 1500miles and now to metal then Yes maybe a fault/warranty. You may have to pay for them to inspect the car to confirm if there is an issue that may be covered. I would venture as far as to say that it most certainly is a warranty issue. One pad on one caliper on one side could not be called normal wear and tear by any stretch of the imagination - after 1500 miles! Most odd.

If the other side is OK then something must have been sticking on the side that is worn or its a faulty pad or abrasive disc. If the disc is OK then its either a sticking caliper or a faulty pad. Its impossible for you to apply the brake on one side only so it can not be operator error can it

"Replacement caliper, pads and rotor all under warranty, please" Accept no less would be my advice. Regards, Clive.

Yes and what makes it worst is according to there Vehicle Analysis System!!!! they say the warning light came on when the car had done 750 miles ( it didn`t ) it came on 25 miles previous to stripping it ,does that suggest the car is only good for 750 miles before it needs a full brake service, No thats not the case ! theres an electronic problem . Any good motoring lawyers out there !! .The first 850 /1000 miles was a nice gentle run to Birmingham to settle the car in ,they have had my car for six wks now ,and I`m pissed off . ANY HELP

It looks like a pretty straightforward warranty claim to me. I can't understand why there's any query unless there's something fundamental I'm missing. I would try to maintain the dialogue with your OPC in the first instance as you'll need them for future servicing etc. Contact the Dealer Principal personally and, if no joy there, ask for the matter to be referred to Porsche UK at Reading. Later you could contact trading standards (or whatever the Scottish equivalent is) as the equipment is clearly unfit for purpose or finally, as you say, get yourself a good lawyer! Regards, Clive.

I've removed the name of the dealership being as legal matters have now been mentioned, (forum rules) Hopefully the advice helps and the issues can be resolved. Odd that the last thread we had this happen with was the same OPC [&:] garyw

^ what he said....

Gary, I assume you refer to the question of the warning light, but I'm not sure this alters the situation at all, does it? It surely can't be right to throw onus back onto the owner because the car has been driven on a warning light. The fact is the fault should not have developed in the first place. If it does, it should be rectified under warranty. It's a £130K motor car after all. [:(] Regards, Clive.

No, totally agree, with the facts given it should be a warranty claim, the fault (brakes) has possibly even caused the light to come on- so is part of the warranty claim too. For an OPC to sell a car with only 1500miles of brake pad left on it raises another question back at the OPC, and how it passed a 111 point inspection.[&:] Sadly as I posted above, its not the first time we've seen complaints about the way things have been handled this particular OPC... The club however can do nothing more than assist and offer advice to the OP garyw

Hi Clive The car was driven no more than 25 very cautious miles with the warning light on, the book say`s to a dealer as soon as practicably possible But there "electronic" equipment say`s I drove the car 775 miles with the light flashing in my face !! .What`s the point of that ? and Why would I do that when the car is under full warranty ,and its not my every day car !!,

So let's recap. Brand new (£130k)Turbo S, after 1500 miles and 6 months one pad is down to the metal and after 1475 miles the warning light came on (which is not unreasonable given one pad is knackered) and the Porsche Centre say it's not covered by warranty and will not budge. Correct? That being the case I would be on the phone to Head Office Reading - here's the number 0118 9303911- first thing in the morning. Something smells a bit fishy here. I'm amazed that if one pad was binding that much that it couldn't be felt through the steering and braking, not to mention the temperature it must have been getting up to?

Hi TS Captain yes youve got it right and can I confirm after driving and spannering on racing motorbikes ,cars, trucks, tractors and anything that burns petrol or diesel and goes like shit off a shovel that I can smell brakes or clutches 2 miles away ,but no noise no smell !! carbon ceramic discs ? my assumption is it was coming on prematurely under acceleration to control wheelspin ,thus it couldnt be heard either. "ELECTRONICS " I hate them ELECTRICITY you cant see it !!! you cant smell it !!!! but if you touch it it`ll kill you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Out of curiosity which corner is the culprit here - a rear one by any chance as that's where all the electrickery goes on? But even so that doesn't explain why one pad (and not the other one on the same disc) has worn to nothing. Any ray of hope yet from the Porsche Centre? Anyway, as you've been driving it carefully there would be any potential wheelspin![;)]

Yes RH rear No joy as yet seems to be stale mate first 1000 miles were driven gently then it got yeee ha coz it goes well the problem is they say the warning was on when the car had done 750 miles, it wasnt ,it came on 25 miles befofe it was gently driven home and parked up and its destroyed the inside of the rear disc . so theres obviously a problem with the warning systems !!
