Brakes

Time to sort the car a bit - and I need new brakes front and rear. What is the best kit to buy if not OEM Porsche, and where do you recommend fitting in Glasgow? Al this and I'll be needing a good servicing too. And tyres. And ignition coils. By the time I'm done I might as well have bought a newer car - anyone got a 3.4S they don't want??

main dealer - negotitate a price and speak to ian easdale in person,
george morrions - still going strong - but make sure you get a quote first and make sure you state no additional work unless agreed prior
Motortune - peter still works on many of the members cars and reports generally good,

cheers
scott.

If you're at all mechanically inclined the brakes are very simple to do yourself (especially on a 2.7 as there's no anti-rattle plates, the pads just fall out) - simpler than most cars. Plugs/coils also very simple (you have to remove the coils to do the plugs so don't let anywhere charge you "extra" labour to do the coils). All parts can be bought from eurocarparts online.

If you're not up to spannering yourself, I'd recommend motortune if you're not bothered about having an "official" stamp in the book.

I recall the OEM pads were Tarox when I changed mine on the Boxster S. Its an easy job as long as you ca push the calipers back. When doing this release the pressure from the caliper itself then when the new ones are fitted top up the reservoir as required. I neverneded to change the back pads but they can't be any harder than the fronts.

Sure it's not Textar?

I also thought it was textar, but have also heard pagid. I just replaced the brakes on my 996 turbo with pagid discs and textar pads and am very pleased with the results (and price!!).
