I've just had several long-standing issues sorted out on my C4 at Braunton Garage in Devon, in preparation for a big move... to New Zealand ! I'm moving there early next year and decided I couldn't be parted from the old girl (the car, not the missus, but she's coming too [:D] The roads in NZ are fabulous, and manual 993s are almost non-existent so I convinced myself it is a logical decision to ship the car, despite the not-inconsiderable cost. A friend took his Caterham there a few years ago and is helping me with the shipping and import process (not completely straightforward).

Nearer the move I'll post some details about how to ship a 993 to NZ (I am hoping to start a blog), but the point of this post was just to say how pleased I was with the work done by Ash and Chris at Braunton: http://www.sportscarrepair.co.uk/

I left the car with them for about 4 weeks having spent most of a Sat morning looking over it with Ash, and discussing the planned work. I ended up getting the following done:
- air-con (it packed up last year, leak in evaporator, £££ but necessary in NZ)
- minor oil leaks
- replace exhaust heat shields and bumper irons, repaint rear PU
- new heater blower motor (fluff removal didn't work)
- clutch slave cylinder (using after-market cyl - see separate post)
- new oil pressure sender (was giving erratic readings, thought to be the gauge by my normal indy, but turned out to be the sender)
- front pads & disks
- all plug leads (unexpected, ouch !)

Naturally this all cost a pretty penny, but I think a fair bit less than it would have done at many indys, helped by their reasonable hourly rate, good pre-planning and doing several jobs at once. Very happy with the work, and would recommend them.

The car is now 100% sorted bar a few paint blemishes, which I can look into getting done in NZ. Now I just have to sort out moving the house contents, renting the house, etc., etc !

I hope you won't mind the 993 being dipped in disinfectant & then steam cleaned to prevent any Devon farm bugs being transferred to NZ[:D]

I thought they only did that in Oz? Incl draining down the windscreen wash water!!!!

Melvin,
When my Sister & Brother-in-Law emigrated to NZ 8 yrs or so ago, they took their Rover 620 with them & it was shipped inside a long container with all their other furniture/possessions.The car was taken away some weeks before shipment for the total cleansing required-I think he even had to clean, polish & paint all his garden tools, mower included.
Every square inch of the car was steam cleaned including the interior with disinfectant used on the tyres etc-it then had to be inspected as it was again on arrival in NZ before release by NZ customs.

I'm told the Ozzies are stricter on cleanliness and less reasonable than the Kiwis, but I am budgeting for a full steam clean. Apparently it's a bit of a lottery whether it is deemed necessary or not.

Thanks for the shipping link, Melv.
