breakdown cover

Advice please.

Just bought a second car promoting 996 to a weekend limited mileage fun car. Any recommendations for breakdown cover for 2 cars - it seems to be a minefield of subtley different deals. Some insure the car, some the person.

Any recommendations? I always rated Green Flag previously but its going back a few years. Who takes best care of the 911?

With the Porsche extended warranty you get the RAC cover, so you would assume they would have a little bit more experience with Porsche breakdowns (?) [8|]
 
I dont know of specific PCGB discount but several of the insurers who advertise in the club mag offer recovery as part of the deal (as do many insurers elsewhere) or at least at a much cheaper rate than that offered by recovery companies themselves.
Both my 911s are covered in this way - includes European travel as well. Used the service on both of them in the last few years and was top notch. Only issue is that RAC etc usually cover individuals rather than the cars they drive so you are covered driving other vehicles - insurers obviously only want to cover the insured vehicle.

I've always stuck with AA as i'm covered for all the cars in the zeb fleet (there are one or two these days) and its you thats covered not the car so its academic as to what vehicle your in. They also do european cover with suits me for le mans/ european trips too. Think I paid around £140 last renewal.

we're on an AA family membership which covers three of us with roadside and relay for £200ish.
The good bit about the AA being attached to the car is when my daughter is in a friends' knackered campervan
they are covered. Good servic e so far so been with them 10+ years, i think a fourth person would cost an extra £14.

If you are really trying to save money then there is an even better option - AutoAid. http://www.autoaidbreakdown.co.uk/

AutoAid is about £40 and applies to the member and their spouse. It works differently to car breakdown in that it is really an insurance policy - you pay the cost of recovery (their call centre will call them out for you) and then reclaim it.

We have this insurance for our three cars but haven't yet used it (touch wood) so I can't tell you how well the recovery would treat a Porsche. But given that the network of recovery firms is not large, the actual operators will be the same as Green Flag etc (and indeed the RAC/AA when they elect to use a local company). It was the Which? Best Buy in 2010 and also recommended on Money Saving Expert. Plug over. Seriously folks, think about what you are trying to cover and then work backwards. For me, I don't mind paying out say £100 to get the car to a garage (yes you can choose) and then claiming it back.
 
Probably not relevant to the OP, but just a word of warning that Green Flag (i've discovered) won't cover cars over 10 years old when outside UK - so pretty useless if you want to take a 993 to Europe[:(]

Shame because I've had very good service from them and their "personal cover" works out as a real bargain when you have 3 vehicles like me especially as they let you name multiple (well 2) people for the personal cover.
 
I just have AA cover with my bank. Works out as a bargain considering what else you get with the monthly package (that Lloyds by the way) I think most banks offer this these days 17 a month, Full AA, Travel Insurance with AXA, card cover, mobile phone cover, important doc cover (i.e passport, licence etc) plus theres more but i can´t remember now. Worth a look anyway
 
Yes, we get this package with Natwest but the Greenflag cover only covers for recovery within 10 miles of breakdown. John
 
Thanks for all info. Managed to get joint personal cover through RAC for myself and wife for £108. Forgot I get discount through my work. (instead of paying £150) . Thanks again. John
 
Try Porsche Assist, which is RAC anyway. They do a 2 year deal for £275 which includes full cover for Europe. Have used them once in UK (failed fuel pump) for 'lift' to nearest OPC and it worked exceptionally well, including the 'Enterprise UK' hire car which was automatically provided and delivered. Also the RAC have special low loaders to recover Porsche cars avoiding the under scraping that happens with some recovery vehicles as the car is hauled up onto the vehicle.
