breaking windscreen on rust replacement

One "helpful" suggestion was made to me while getting a quote for some rust treatment around the windscreen. He suggested that I check my insurance would cover me for broken windscreen while they were doing the work.

Now I would have thought that if they break the windscreen while working then they should pay for a new one? Or have I badly misunderstood. When I challenged him I got "windscreens are an exception". Hmmm. Does anyone have any wisdom on this one?

If there is corrosion around the screen I would want it removed to allow the bodyshop to carry out a thorough repair. You have to accept it might break as its bonded in and your insurance will cover the replacement if you have some really bad chips in it.

Its better to have a new one fitted whilst at the bodyshop as they can assist/supervise the new screen being fitted. Poor quality fitting resulting in damaged paintwork/chips will see you at the bodyshop again in a couple of years.

I got this work done on my '95 coupe just before the body warranty ran out and they told me that there was a 50% chance that the 'screen would break on removal. They did confirm that if it broke they (or Porsche GB) would pay for a replacement.
