Breather tube!!

Where should it exit to??

The previous owner had the smaller pipe blocked. The oil in the breather was becoming emuslified, as I'm doing short journeys, so I figured unblocking it would let more of the steam out - but where to?

Can anyone help?

does this help?

The smaller one goes into the right hand rocker housing, the larger one would go into the standard air cleaner housing

I think there are about three options...

1. Exit tube down through tine wear, need to cut a hole, bit messy and not perfect as it will exit near silencer box and drip oil, then oil will burn off, smelly...

2. K&N do a small filter that goes on the end of a small length of tube, down side is you still get some oil vapour in engine compartment

3. vent the pipe to the right carb, see below

This is the K&N filter (K&N part number 62-1370 I think) this still emits some drips etc... the choice is yours! [:D]

Is there not a down side to venting into the filter, does in not (over time) cover the inside of you nice K+N with oily stuff?

There is a fourth option, instead of venting through the tin wear to the floor, you could vent into a catch tank (which would be required for track/hill climb racing) as stuarts race car.

Nice looking engine gav, looking forward to seeing it one day!

I guess, but I suppose you need to clean them every so often and re-oil them maybe it's not a biggy? I think of all the engines I have seen in pics and real life the carb option is the most common. Jury is out I guess...

HAving now seen Matts car I can see what he means about the pipe the breather pipe that vents to the top of the filter is OK

it's the other pipe that vents from the head to the oil tank that is blocked off.

Matt we had a quick chat about I have looked at my spare 912 engine and it was what I thought I hope you have the same on your heads. If you remove some of the tin wear for access and have a look at the head see if there is a bung in the head this will be where the pipe will need to go.

On mine is has a rubber bung with a hose like fitting ( metal)coming out of it so the pipe fits on that. I guess ( may have to ask Andy Prill) it is to vent the heads as there is not one (hose) on the other side on the other head.

Matt you need to work out where that oil mist is coming from ekk! I hope it is an easy fix.

Nice car BTW I thought it was Gav's at first hence I was tapping my watch at you at 3pm
And those seats are from a later 911 just for info. Why the head rests and the mechanisum for tipping them forward is different. Nick Moss would know more about that ( 911 ) than me.

It was great to meet you guys on New Year's Day. I was trying to get there earlier but a colleague from work wanted to take his son and that meant I was delayed. I'll get the photos posted as soon as I get in to work (no memory stick on this PC).

I just rigged up a temporary catch tank from the breather for the time being. Just did about 130 miles over the weekend and the volume of emuslified oil is not massive but looks like it is entering the right carb.

I cleaned up the bay before I left to give me a 'clean slate' regarding the 'oil spray'. I haven't pinned it down but I think there's a little seepage between the section holding the generator and the block. I'm going to apply some Blue Hylomar to it and hope that that sorts it out.[8|]
